Is Big Thunder BBQ a nice spot for a holiday meal?

Hi everyone!
I'm brand new to The DIS this morning. I'm still exploring and finding my way around. I'd appreciate any help or tips you can offer.

I'm planning a visit to DL on 12/12. Our main purpose is to soak up all the holiday magic. I want to make a reservation for dinner somewhere that will seem extra Christmasy. Big Thunder Ranch BBQ has been on my to do list for a while, but we've never made it happen. Do you think it's a good pick for holiday fun? Is there another table service restaurant that I should consider?

I'll be with my husband and 4 year old son. I'm sure he'll be tired and cranky by dinnertime, so nothing too fancy.

Nice to meet everyone!:santa:

The Big Thunder Ranch BBQ is one of the few venues that I can think of that does decorate for the holidays. There will be decor and the singer/musician will likely do some holiday songs. They usually also have a holiday-time dessert (priced separately). I do think it's a fun place to eat, but it is worth noting that the restaurant is entirely outdoors. So if it rains, the restaurant will close and it can be cold/windy/etc. depending on the weather.

When you say "cranky" what do you mean? While the BBQ is casual, if your child is likely to be having a tantrum, please note that the tables around you will hear it.

Hello! I just wanted to chime in. Big Thunder BBQ is right next to Jingle Jangle Jamboree, so if your son gets restless, you or your husband can take him next door for a nice distraction while waiting to be seated/waiting for food or right after dinner.:thumbsup2

This is a good point, but it's worth noting that JJJ closes around 5:30 pm. So it's something to keep in mind when planning your trip.

That sounds like exactly what we're looking for!

I know the corn-on-the-cob and sausage will be a hit with my kid. Thanks for the tips!:thumbsup2

Weather permitting, it might be perfect for a cranky little one. It's super casual, so it's no big deal if you need to get up from the table for a few minutes with your little one. Also, it's more than a meal, it's kind of like dinner and a show where the performers interact with the patrons, so crankiness should be at a minimum due to a wonderfully entertaining distraction! :thumbsup2 I love that they decorate for the holidays! Sounds like fun! :santa:
