Is Biergarten really all that bad?

My husband and I would love to try Biergarten but everyone keeps saying it's horrible. My husband is 50% german and i'm 25% german and love german food. Do you think we should try it or not?

If you like german food you'll LOVE it! My husband lokves sauerbraten and you can't get it around here- so we go every trip. Have Fun!

Biergarten, in my opinion, is quite good. DW and I ate there for lunch about a year ago and my DW is a picky eater. We both loved it. I am an experienced German food eater and have eaten it many times, including in Europe. Biergarten is good, not great, German food, but it is excellent food overall. Some people may not like the buffet style, but we thought it was great. We liked it so well that we are going back on Christmas Eve as part of our Candlelight Processional dinner package this year.

Father-in-Law (we're legally married already) is 100% first generation immigrant from Austria. Mother-in-Law is second generation. They always love to... more for the entertainment and atmosphere than the food though. There are certain things I stay away from just becuase they are unfamiliar. It is buffet style, so you can pick and choose what you do and don't want. Family specialty here is chicken schnitzel... we still eat it there (though his mom's and mine are waaaay better ). The pretzel rolls are good, too!

It's a fun time and we have always enjoyed going- even with some very picky eater in the family. That's not to say it's comprable to Le Cellar, Chefs de France, or Alfredo's though!

Our group of 13 (including 3 children - 6, 6 and 3) had dinner and really enjoyed it. The children especially enjoyed the show. The food is good - not gourmet but after so much steak, seafood, etc., it really hit the spot.

We tried it this year for lunch and really liked it. I am not big on German food, its ok but I am just not a big fan of sausage and kraut and I really liked it.

I say go for it.

You will find positive and negative reviews on every restaurant. My advice is to try it to see for yourself.

Personally, it is the worst meal I've ever had..Disneyworld or elsewhere. Totally awful, but there are others that will say it is their best meal.

You just have to take a chance sometimes, have fun!!

My dad loves this place. There are things I like and things I dont, but that is the beauty of a buffet I would try it for yourself!. Go for lunch I believe it is cheaper.

I do know that it is NOTHING like the german restuarants around here. We have a group of 'colonies' about 20 minutes from here that were composed entirely of german immigrants, who lived communily (sp?) for about 100 years ending sometime in the 20th century. They still have AWESOME food in restuarants there, but the beirgarden is very different type of food. If I had to guess, I would think that the places near me have been influenced by the midwest as they have been here for a long time.

They are still both great places to eat. (my local places and beirgarden).

The lunch is cheapier by 5 dollars but I love saurbraten and they only serve that during dinner :-(

I think Biergarten is a great choice. I joined some friends there in October and had a wonderful dining experience. Its a great chance to try several German foods. I thought the food was very good. There were some things I liked a lot and want to enjoy again. I can't name them because I was so busy talking and didn't pay attention, but hopefully I will recognize them when I go back! Now the apple strudel - that I remember!!!

In the spirit of Oktoberfest, you are seated at the tables with others - raising your glasses to ziggy zaggy ziggy zaggy hoy hoy hoy with your new friends!! Swaying to Du, du liegst mir am Herzen. Dancing a polka if you wish. The performers were entertaining; the music was fun; the atmosphere was charming and my dining companions were the best.

I think you should try it !!

My DH loves German food, and he even hated the food there--it was the worst meal we had at Disney world (we were there in November 05). If you want to dine at Epcot, there are lots of good restaurants--for example, the food at the Garden Grill is much better.

It sounds like we would really enjoy eating here. The only problem is we are really shy and I don't like the seating arrangements at all.

I should probably clarify that the dining companions I referred to were the friends I already knew. I love great company when I'm dining out. There were five of us. At one point, they seated a couple with a little girl by us. They left before they ate. At least I hope they left and didn't just want another table Later a couple was seated at the end of the table. Everyone seemed to mostly talk with their own group - and when the entertainment started you are all turned and focused on that. So I wouldn't let the seating arrangements influence the decision.

I lived in Germany for a year and I found the food at the Biergarten to be great! Even my incredibly picky 14 yo dd loved it and wants me to make more than one ressie there next trip.

Give it a try--I bet you'll enjoy it.

DH and I ate there 12/12. It was one place we always wanted to try so we finally did. We are both of German background and very familiar with German food and we loved it. DH raved about the schnitzel and I particularly like the cold salads and cheese selection. The bratwurst was yummy too. The entertainment was great, they did several Christmas songs.

It's one of our must-do's. We've always enjoyed the food, the show, and the company we meet at our table!

We went last night on a whim, and actually had a very nice time talking with two brothers next to us. Usually we're seated with a party of six, so we're out in the cold, but this time we were seated next between a party of four and a party of two, and it worked very well.

The food was excellent, as it always is. We haven't been back in a year, I think, and they did remove the caraway seeds they'd been testing in the pretzel rolls, so we were happy.

(Whew, got my refined carb fix! Promptly fell asleep in the car and I remembered why I didn't eat like that usually)
