Is Artist Point Bad?

We decided to try something new this year and go with Artist Point for Christmas dinner. We were all excited. Sure, we'd be abandoning our beloved Narcoossee's, but we would have never discovered Narcoossee's had we not tried new things.

The menu looked interesting. It wasn't our usual go-to items, but they had steak and interesting twists, so we booked it.

AJ from DisneyFoodBlog wrote a negative blog about the restaurant. The comments didn't help. She rarely writes anything negative, so this has us nervous. We don't want to cancel and we understand that people's taste in food is varies - so I'm looking for some more opinions.

Artist Point is one of our must do restaurants every year. The review and re-review, which were done after my last visit there in March, and the comments, are also making me rethink my upcoming ADR.

Artist Point is a tradition for us. We like to start our vacation with a dinner there the day we arrive. The food has always been consistently stellar in our experience, including two weeks ago when we were there last. I'm surprised to hear that you've only seen predominantly negative reviews of it, but as you said, taste varies I suppose. Artist Point would be a lovely Xmas dinner, in my humble opinion. Oh, and I love Narcoossee's, too, if that helps! :)

We had an excellent experience there in July, and it shot to the top of our favorites list. We recommend it to anyone who asks!

I didn't read the blog's original review, but I did read the re review. I didn't see anything bad enough to make me cancel an ADR. Most of the comments about the various dishes were more positive than negative, save for her not liking the milkshake. And I wouldn't write off an entire restaurant because of one inattentive server.

Not even signature restaurants are immune from poor reviews. But this really wasn't a bad review. It just wasn't ravingly positive. So what if she didn't write the usual (Dis-like) droolingly gushing, over the top, purple prose proclaiming "OMG, it was the most fabulous food I've ever eaten in my entire life!!"? She also didn't tell everyone to run for their life in the opposite direction.

I know, right? I'm dying to try that portobello soup, though and now is not the time to shuffle or change ADRs for Christmas. In fact, 179 days out is not the time ti change ADRs, either. It is what it is. My mom said it best - no one gets sick there (knock on wood) and the food isn't disgusting, it just wasn't as good as the writer would expect from a Signature. Oh well - live and learn.

Yeah - Fort Wilderness may be the best resort for Christmas. Totally looking forward to that!

Very true. I guess I just got worried. I want my family's trip to be perfect. No every restaurant could be Narcoossee's ::yes::

My DH and I ate there 5 years ago and we liked it so much we went back again 2 nights later. Now since then they have changed chefs, though the menu didn't change much, but I would definitely try it again.

As I have written on other threads some of my best experiences have been at Artist Point, Narcoossee's, and Calif Grill. At the same time some of my not favorite experiences have been at the same restaurants!. Our worse experience was at Narcoossee's. With that said, a restaurant that is busy 7 nights a week will have some slip ups. Artist Point is one of our favorites.

Honestly, we ate there a couple of weeks ago and were really disappointed. Our spare ribs were cold (and their replacement not much warmer), and the bison loin was tough and chewy (no other way to put it). Now, the flavors were really good, and the bison *was* cooked correctly - it just didn't work. The rest of the meal (crab cakes and halibut) were very good, but nothing to write home about. The mac and cheese was probably my highlight, though my husband thought it needed a little salt. Now, it was one of the last seatings of the night, so that may have had something to do with it, but it really wasn't what we were expecting for the reputation. Perhaps it might have been better with an earlier seating, but for now, it's kind of a one and done.

Artist Point ranks ahead of Narcoossees on my list. I'm told V&A is better, but Artist Point is the best restaurant that I've eaten at on property.

I thoroughly enjoyed AP when I went there. That soup is the bomb! Do go to WDW expecting perfection. You will certainly be disappointed eventually.

NOTE1: Artist Point has lately made several changes to revive the old quality of the food
and service, and regained the reputation of the past. It has now replaced Monsieur Paul on
our TS list, and we only eat at five TS's. If you eat there, try to get a window table. The view
of courtyard and lake are grand and romantic at sunset and after dark. In June-2015, Michael
was appointed head chef at Artist Point. With his new menu ideas, it looks like AP is returning
to its previous stellar reputation. We DID enjoy the new selections and food prep. It is
quickly becoming the best Disney-Owned TS on property, next to V&A.
.
NOTE2: For a heavenly treat, do the highly prized Copper River Salmon which is available only
during mid May to early-June, with a side of Mushroom Soup. For dessert, we used to LOVE the
AP Cobbler, but since the size and recipe change, it is not on our radar.
