Is applying a "quick coat" of nail polish appropriate at work?

Not unless you work at a nail salon! The fumes can be bothersome, it's messy, and it puts you in a position where even after the "quick coat" you have to wait 10 minutes before working!

I think it depends on the work situation. I'm guessing if you have time and privacy to DIS at work, you have time and privacy to apply nail polish.

I guess if someone were getting "gussied up" for a customer coming in or an important meeting then sure. If for personal reasons only then no.

I'm guilty of doing this, but I wouldn't just whip out the polish at any old time. It was early in the morning and I was the only one in the office at the time. I opened a window and did it "really quick" before anyone came in. I asked a coworker if she smelled the fumes when she came in and so told me she didn't, so I guess I got away with it.

the other reason this got brought up...was that I swore I could smell nailpolish about 20 minutes ago...I emailed her saying "eeww...someone is doing their nails!"

i work in a cube farm.

she's like "what's wrong with that?"

um...never. I have that neutrogena "nail enhancer" pen...it dries in about 3 seconds with little to no smell...but even that I"ll only apply IN MY CAR

I voted no, but is it OK at lunch time? I have some co-workers that cook smelly fish things at lunch time, so if someone wanted to do their nails, is that worse?

We paint our nails at work all the time. We also wrap presents, decorate, play games, occasionally fix breakfast, etc. But when there is actually work to do, it gets done before any fun and games.

I think depending on the situation. We have a small cluster of cubicles in back of our office and I know the girls back there do it once in a while. No one knows, no clients go back there, and it's only once in a while.
