Is anyone watching 20/20?

Gosh, I feel like such a spoiled brat. It's showing the "real" Appalachia. These people are so poor, they're on welfare and go without meals some days.

I feel like a such a !@#$%^&* when I'm here saying "Woe is me. I've got cancer, I wish I wasn't sick, blah blah blah". At least my parents had the money to pay for my healthcare!
The one girl, she is such a pretty girl. Her mom was hooked on drugs and the thing she wanted most was a pair of boots like Hannah Montana wears.
And their accents! I didn't know such a Southern twang was real.

I feel horrible right now, and I'm very emotion. Let me go sob.
How do you perceive this show?
Becasue u are a brat sonya!
;)

but yeah i saw the commercials for this. it looked really sad ):

I feel so sorry for them! But, in all honesty, they need a serious health lesson. If I was that poor and they had to give me food stamps, I wouldn't spend it on Mountain Dew and Chips. I would buy healthy food that wouldn't ruin my health. If you are living in poverty and the gov gives you food stamps, you need to spend it on healthy food to stay alive. I hope they specify food stamps to they are forced to only buy vegetables, fruits, fish, cereal, beef, ham, other meats, water, milk, and NO MOUNTAN DEW!

You don't know what you would do until you're in that situation.

I feel horrible because the kids are innocent in this. It's the parents who make the bad choices and unfortunately it reflects upon their children.
My dad comes from a family like this. Of the 4 kids, including himself, he's the only one who's 1) not on welfare/SS/disability 2) graduated high school 3) makes more than $30,000 a year 4) has held a steady job.
His parents never cared. Their thinking was "I own you until your 18th birthday. The day after your 18th birthday, you better be out of here!".
I'm seeing it repeat in my cousins too. My aunt was in an abusive relationship, and one of her daughters with him is also now in an abusive relationship.
History always repeats itself. It's the only life the children know, of course there's a great chance they're going to repeat it.

Oh, and ITA our system needs some major changes! Food stamps need to me limited. Besides that, I don't even understand what's so good about Mtn. Dew. I think it tastes gross and looks like funky urine. Ew.

Mountain Dew is nasty. But I drink diet so I can't fathom why anyone would want to drink that crap.

To each his own, I guess.

What I don't like, is how in some ways, we're actually fueling this behavior. It's OUR taxes that pay for THEIR food stamps, that in result, pay for their Mountain Dew and other junk.

I think of junk food as a luxury. We don't need it. But when we're financially stable and have enough money to spare, it's fine to buy it.

These people don't have any money to spare and are far from financially stable, so they shouldn't be buying junk. But it's cheap.

I'm not even sure if I'm making sense anymore, lol.
