Over the last 2-3 weeks I have posted more than 50 times. Trying to sell many things from furniture, sports equipment, kids clothing. I have received 1-2 real responses, and a few junk responses. But no sales. Are people still buying?

I used to put stuff on CL and it would sell fast! I put about 15-20 things on about 3 weeks ago, and 1 thing sold! It is crazy! I have never had this happen! I do not believe my prices are high, they are even lower than what I would have typically sold them for before!

There have been many scams on Craig's List and people just do not trust mdse from there anymore!

A few thoughts... are you posting pictures of the stuff you are trying to sell? When I look at CL to buy, I won't even bother looking at an ad that doesn't have a picture. Also, are your prices reasonable? I have sold every thing I have ever posted on CL, from baby gear to clothes to a very large entertaiment center. The key is to price your things reasonably. Good luck!

As others have said post photos, have clear descriptions and don't try to list a million things in one post. I have seen where some people post a laundry list of items in a single post and hence the majority of the items are then miscategorized. Make sure you title is clear, for example, Girls 3T lot of Baby Gap clothes. Make sure your location is clear. I live in the Washington DC area and many people don't want to come to my place in Virginia since they live in suburban Maryland. Also make sure to list a price. I won't even bother responding to ads without photos, location and price.

Well, I just sold quite a few things on CL. I only have left 2 of the 8 things I listed last Sunday. I took SEVERAL pictures of each item and posted one item per listing (so like my entertainment center by itself and 2 or 3 pics of it, a dollhouse and all the accessories by themselves and 4 pics of it/them..) Most items went REALLY fast and sold for a pretty good price (no one asked me to take less) but I still have 2 leaf blowers left. You'd think with fall coming up :confused3 ... if they are still here next weekend they are going to the church run thrift store.

ETA: I forgot. I do have a question regarding CL - twice I have gotten emails about an item I listed and when I open the email it is just a long string of nonsense words. Some of them borderline strange/scary. I am assuming this is from one of those email virus things and not some weirdo with a strange sense of humor. I didn't reply to them but I found it very odd.

I put 5 on CL last Wed, 2 sold by Sat. I did put "firm" on some, and actually the two that were firm in price, both sold. I think I was fair with pricing.
I also added in a line to say "please see our other listings "XYZ town, AB county, State" so they also got to see our other listings and knew what to "plug in" the search bar.
I wish I had sold all five, but I am going to reduce prices a drop next week and see what happens. I'll also be changing the add a little and then, canceling other ad and re-post it, using another email address. Otherwise the old listing will remain where it is in the system....7 days old, etc....There was Tons listed this weekend, some real bargains....hopefully people got some good deals....

Meanwhile I have a huge amount of some name brand kids stuff, even some with tags, decided I would not "bulk" them rather, I will place an ad with pix of it all, and then do a small garage type sale next weekend with price fixed per item....its only jeans and shirts....I originally thought to donate it all (I did give away two large bags) but realized, its foolish not to sell it....and make some Xtra cash....why not :confused3 its so easy.....
Heres some tips that seem to work for me:
Try to be very concise
Always use a clear Pix
Be descriptive with condition, size, dimension so people don't have to guess, list pertinent info and always be Up Front with any issues..... I always us the anonymous email address and only After they contact me, offer a cell phone (that is also Blocked from giving out My info);)
I met in a public place and had someone come to my home, they lived in same town and I googled their name and such.confirmed their address..the dh does not like me giving the address out, so its a judgment call..there are some scammers out there and annoying people, but many nice ones too...Best of Luck..:wizard:

unfortunately they could also be virus' and trojans but I do not know how to avoid that! Do they respond with your link attached. I'd forward to Craigslist..usually there is a fraud link....I think that is really weird and there is definitely something UP with that......

I just put a pricey piece of equipment on- 1st time selling there- hope someone can use it-the item sells for about 3000. I am asking 900. I think that is fair- Try to get insurance to cover these items- it's terrible- they won't. So maybe another family can afford it and I can upgrade to a bigger one.

I put 5 things up last week, sold 3. We just put 3 more things up today, sold 2 within hours! I do put detailed posts, and pictures.

I sold Ds's old dresser 2 weeks ago for $50. I got numerous responses and luckily finally got the first one to come over. The only problem I have is communication with the buyers. They don't respond or say they are coming and don't.

DH put a bike on today and had 3 people that wanted to immediately pick it up.

DH listed my bike yesterday and someone called within 20 minutes, and came right on time. It was a college student that had her bike stolen.

---------

Of the four things he listed yesterday, two were sold within half an hour (and they showed up on time), one person was a no-show, and one item didn't have any takers. The biggest problem is the million "is this available" emails. Well, sure, it is at the time I answer you, but it might not be if you email back in 4 days and say you want it!

I have not sold a single item I have listed on CL, but I had a yard sale Sat and listed it under Garage Sales, and nearly every person who came said they had seen the CL ad.

Yes everything has at least one picture, sometimes more. The pictures are always clear, close-ups and items layout nicely. I think the prices are reasonably. I usually look at what similiar items are selling for and price around that.

Not a CL seller, but a CL buyer here. I've bought 2 kid's things this weekend off CL - both had good descriptions with accurate pictures so there were no surprises when we showed up to check things out. I'm thrilled to be able to buy some decent kid things for my grandchildren without spending a fortune.

I ususally on post one item per post. The clothes I have done with lots. My location isn't the best, but it's ok lots of families. We live outside of chicago.
Every post includes a photo. I am the same way I won't even look at a post without a photo.

I posted a very detailed garage sale ad on CL. I sold only a few of those items. I know of only 2 people who came and made a purchased because of the ad.

I had to respond to this because I'm a little frustrated on the other end....I've emailed a couple of people about items they have for sale but they aren't responding! One item I flat out know I want and told them that and they still haven't responded...and I've emailed them twice in 3 days! :( If it's no longer for sale, just say it!

As a seller, I haven't really listed much on there outside of a garage sale last summer, but we did put a car on there a couple of weeks ago and it sold in two hours! :cool1:
