There are three types of books I am really interested in - and if there are other folks here with the same interests, maybe we could make recommendations to each other.. Anyone interested?

Amish fiction - by any author..

Christian fiction - similar to Karen Kingsbury.. (I can do without all of the sex, violence, foul language, etc.. ;) )

Any fiction - with the location of the story being specifically the New England Coast..

Also - please note if any of the books that you recommend are a "series" - my favorite kind - although I am willing to read "stand-alone" books as well..

Anyone interested?

Hopefully the word "Christian" won't cause this thread to be closed down because I'm not referring to "religious" books - just those that are "clean" - for lack of a better word..:goodvibes

So, a book about vikings with sex and swords won't do? ;)

Don't make me break off your arms and beat you with the bloody stumps..:headache::headache:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Oops! I mean put you in a "time-out"..;)

Shamelessly bumping this thread up..

Anyone at all interested? I know there are others here who at least read Amish fiction..:goodvibes

Although I am not familiar with those you mentioned, I am always on the look-out for fiction that is fun but doesn't make me blush!
Mysteries are my favorite, not a fan of romances. Always looking for suggestions!

Well if you're interested in reading Amish fiction, while all of the Beverly Lewis series do have some romance in them, there is always a mystery involved as well.. Do you think that might interest you? :goodvibes

If you have any suggestions for books about vikings with swords and sex (and possibly set in New England) I'm all for it! Please share!

I'll have to check back in a few years when my kids are older... right now I fall alseep as soon as I pick up a book!

C.Ann--

I responded to one of your other posts about Amish books I think it was back on 5/30/09 ( I tried to find it but was unable too) and gave you the name of Wanda Brunstetter who has many series of Amish books. The last one I read was A Cousin's Promise and that is her latest series, which will have more books to follow. The rest of her series are complete. I enjoy her very much.

A couple more to add to that list are Beth Wiseman, Plain Perfect, and Plain Pursuit.

I also have a book by Mary Ellis, A Widow's Hope, and Amy Clipston, A Gift of Grace. Thos I have not read yet, but are Amish series.

Hope this helps to give you some more ideas. I just love Amish books, and Beverly Lewis is another one of my favorites too. She has a new series starting, but only the first book is available now, and I know you like to have the whole series at once.

Enjoy reading the rest of your time "North".

I was looking for that thread too - and couldn't find it! LOL

I was a bad girl today.. :( I called the lady over in town (that sells used books out of her garage) to see if she had any of the ones I had on my list and she didn't - so.....................................

I went back to Amazon.com and ordered 11 more books..:eek:

I'm just reading them too gosh darn quick - sometimes a paper back and 2 hard covers all in one day!

Before I go to bed tonight I will read, "The Bretheren" - the last in the Beverly Lewis "Annie's People" series.. Next I have her "Courtship of Nellie Fisher" series to read..

From there, I will switch to Karen Kingsbury's 5-book "Redemption" series about the "Baxter" family)..

Someone here on the DIS was kind enough to mention that there are two additional follow-up series - surrounding the Baxter family ("First Born" and "Sunrise" series), so I ordered those today - along with Beverly Lewis' "The Postcard/The Crossroads/The Sanctuary series (all in one book)..

I also did a search on Amazon - for Amish fiction writers and I found:

Wanda Brunstetter (that you mentioned)
Cindy Woodsmall
Beth Wiseman
Lauraine Snelling

and one "mystery Ohio Amish fiction" writer: P.L. Gaus.. The snips of his books sounded very, very interesting, but they must be relatively new because even the "used" copies were quite pricey..

I know it sounds like I have quite a few books available to me - as well as those I ordered today - but believe me, I'll read through them in no time flat!

Oh - and now I want to take a trip to Lancaster County! :rotfl:

I just finished a stand - alone book by Karen Kingsbury called "This Side of Heaven". Excellent book.

After I wrote you a note last nite, I remembered that when we were in Amish Country in Ohio on vacation a few weeks ago, I was looking at books, and came across a Wanda Brunstetter series for children. I know at one time you asked about a Amish series for your grand daughter. There were probably about 8 in the series about different areas of Amish life. I am not sure if they were too young for her, or not, but you might want to check them out and see if she would be interested in them.

Happy Reading.

Thanks! I'll check on both..:goodvibes
