Hi All! We usually get a villa (very nice 3-4 bedroom and private pool) for $440.00 for the week. Very inexpensive. We were looking to stay onsight just to see how it was. Well the Contempory Room on the All Ears . Net web site showed various rooms and I was not impressed at ALL, especially, for the money. They want $339.00 per NIGHT and UP! The furniture looked cheap, they had a cheap 19 inch tv set (or smaller) it wasn't really decorated nice, IMO. I have looked at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, WL, Polynesian and these hotels look so much nicer.

What do you all think?

Thanks!

i thought the same thing when i was looking at pics before we went. when we got there the room was alot nicer than we thought it would be . and as for the tv all the deluxe resorts have smjall tvs. and when we were there the end of oct they had just put new tvs in and i think they were bigger then 19inch i would say about 25 :flower:

It's hard to compare your villa with the Contemporary (or any other onsite resort, for that matter). You got tons of space and a private pool for an amazing price. But did you get a view of Cinderella's castle changing colors and fireworks every night? Did you get to just hop on the monorail for a short ride to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot? How about a bus that conveniently drops you at the front door of the Animal Kingdom or MGM? Did you get Mickey Mouse soaps? ;) I know a lot of people hate the decor of the CR, but I thought it was fun. (I wouldn't want it in my livingroom, but for vacation, it was fun) I guess it's just a matter of what you want.

Ditto to what the previous poster said. You can't beat staying on-site. However, the CR isn't the only resort in town. Since you like space, why not try the Polynesian? The rooms are bigger. Or rent DVC points and stay at either the Beach Club or Wilderness Lodge Villas, both are very convenient.
About the CR, we stayed there once, North Wing. I think it was 1999. The inside of the room was fine, nothing fancy but the views, walking to MK, seeing the monorail whisk through the hotel...those things were priceless. Do I sound like a credit card commercial???

lol you do sound like a credit card comercial but it is all true. we love the cr

You definitley pay a lot for the magic of being on site. Keep in mind, I would never pay $319 a night for a room there. But with a room code, you can stay for $159 a night. Not too bad. I personally would stay at AKL or WL for less than that.

Have fun and enjoy the magic of Disney!

Thanks for your replies....I still think if I'm going to payu $389.00 and up I would rather be at the Ritz Carlton. The rooms in my opinion are not worth the money. The Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge, and the Animal Kingdom are so much nicer in reference to the room decor. I'm glad they're having a refurbishment, it's badly needed.

Hi DudsPizza!

We have annual passes and I'm going to have to see when they slash the prices. I also heard Corondo Springs was nice, and the rate was especially nice too!

Thanks All!

The rooms are big and the bathrooms in the Tower are very large and nice. But you ar epaying for LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. No where else can you WALK to the Magic Kingdom. And at the end of a long day, walking back to your room at the CR is SO much better than waiting with the huge crowds for the monorail or busses.

It doesn't suit me. I wouldn't stay there for any extended period but the location and view of MK is very nice. I kept thinking I had to step over the orange extension cord everytime I came out of the bathroom.

Two comments:
1.CR rooms are very large and comfortable
2. They look better in person than they do in any picture I've seen of them

We stayed in Dec. in the north wing. No, I personally would not pick the decor, but the LOCATION is unbeatable. I would stay there again. The room size was really nice, much bigger than WL. I also figure, I was mostly there just to sleep anyway.

I'm booked at the Contemporary this summer for $260 a night (AAA rate - hoping for AP rate). I cannot wait to stay here! We've stayed at the GF twice and the Polynesian once. Loved those - except the decor of the Polynesian left me UNimpressed. The Grand was great on our honeymoon but just OK when we went back a year and a half later. Now that we have two little kids, I want the BIG rooms, convenience of being able to walk to MK or hop the monorail, the bright colors and Chef Mickey's on site! Plus we have a garden wing room booked and I am really looking forward to the view of Bay Lake - especially at sunset. I read on one post that that view is one of the most under-appreciated in WDW. (Of course an upgrade to a MK view would be nice, but I never count on upgrades ;) ).

Can't wait to go again!!!!!!!!!!!!! :earboy2:

I am impressed with the rooms. The decor is tacky, and certainly not worth $300 and upwards a night; but that's a decision only your family can make. That said, the rooms are second only to the Polynesian as the biggest on-site, the proximity is unmatched, you're on the monorail line, and one of WDW's best restaurants is located on property. It doesn't get much better than that.

We loved the Contemporary on our last visit at Thanksgiving. We have always stayed in the Tower. The rooms are very nicely sized. The view was outstanding... Magic Kingdom side. Loved the shops, the monorail, the arcade was a lifesaver. Always friendly CM's. Nice restaurants. Walking to the MK. It was just fabulous. If we could afford it, I'd stay there every trip. We were lucky to get Tower at $229 the week of Thanksgiving!
We found the decor FUN, especially our little guy. To each his own.

In my poinion, the best that Disney has to offer is thier DVc's. Want to try one? We have points to rent.

Actually, although the color scheme was a bit bright, we were VERY impressed with the rooms at the Contemporary. The size was fantastic. The beds were comfortable, the view from our room of Bay Lake was very pretty, and the bathrooms... I can't say enough about those bathrooms! Best set up on property! The CM's were all very accomodating and friendly. Loved all of the touches of Mickey! I would gladly stay there again!

We absolutely loved the CR! We went three years ago this month, got a very low post-9/11 rate for a Tower room on 11th floor. Had an amazing view of the MK and Castle changing colors all night, it was a bit of Disney magic each night winding down with the kids. The room was brightly decorated, sure, but we're on vacation....it was fun and different. The room's size was not a problem for the 5 of us. Several times we got dinner or lunch out and brought it back to the room to eat, or took a mid-afternoon nap before heading back to a park. The bathroom was large and nicely decorated, nice shower/tub, and toilet in seperate little room....each day the maid would fold a hand towel in some animal shape and put each of my kid's toothbrushes in one! That had my kids mesmerized. The ease of the Monorail going thru the building was so convenient, be sure to ask to ride up front one time too. Looking down from our floor's hallway/balcony and seeing Chef Mickey's 11 stories below....wow! Quite a view. Also, the outside pool at CR is fantastic, with lots of fountains and hot tubs and a nice waterslide. We checked into CR for our upcoming trip, but even with AP rate it was somewhere between $200 and $250 I believe for garden, didn't even check the Tower.....decided to go with PO-R for $79 instead. But we've told the kids we WILL go back to the CR again, it was that great an experience. Just give it a try!

I dont know about you, but about the only thing we do in the room is sleep and dress. The rest of the time we are out enjoying the parks, shopping, restaurants, etc. We stay at the CR (wings) because to me its all about WDW. Like the name, the room decor is contemporary. Its a bit wild, but the size alone makes up for the funky decor. No where else does a monorail run through a building. I can easily hop on one and be at TTC in one stop, or MK in a few more (and the views are great). I can also pick up a bus right out front to most places, hop on the ferry out back, or in 10 minutes walk to MK. I can walk out the door and my car is right there (unlike some places where you have to walk a ways). I can watch Wishes and the Water Parade from my room (not having to deal with crowds) or go up to the 4th floor balcony in the tower to see Wishes. Its also a decent spot to watch a shuttle launch. Chef Mickeys is a great place to eat and see characters. The shops are pretty nice too. Ive stayed at the Poly (its nice), the Floridian (spent too much time walking around that place to get from the main building to our room, and the rooms are so much smaller), and off-site. Nothing beats the large rooms and being on the monorail line, especially when you have a little one who needs to go back to the resort for a break midday!
