Is anyone ever apprehensive about...

Changing the resort you always stay at? We have gone to Disney many times and I stayed at The Beach Club on my first visit, then my Sister talked me into staying at the FW Cabins. Well we loved it there and have been staying there every year since. Now I think I might want to try somewhere else but I am not sure I will enyoy it as much. I see from these board alot of people try different resorts. Anyone else have similiar concerns? My Husband does't like Fw he wants to try the Boardwalk Villas. He says he feels to far away from everything.

As you can see by my sig--I've tried a lot of the resorts. I do have my favorites, and there are a couple that just don't interest me in the least, but I am going to still try a few of the ones that I haven't been to yet...just not enough time to get to them all! When I'm a little on the leery side, I like to try the new one on a short trip so that if I don't care for it, I'm not stuck there for a week or more, or in a position to have to change resorts, which I don't like to do.

We have only stayed at five of the resorts and also have our favorite, but have vowed to try all of the deluxes before we return to any of them.

I'm that way too. Once I get comfortable with a resort, learn the ins and outs, the shortcut paths, what time is best to arrive where, etc., I like to return there. It's often difficult to give up the known for the unknown - but remember, it is Disney, so it's not like you're going to end up in a real dive. DW and I are trying the Polynesian for the first time (yes, we're really walking on the wild side with that risk ) but I'm sure we'll do just fine.

We have a couple of WDW resorts that we prefer, but for one reason or another, we end up at various ones from time to time.
This would cover the range from ASsports to GF. We've never had a bad time and have found redeeming qualities to all of them.

How funny! I was just talking about this with someone last night!

I really want to try new resorts - in fact when planning I will research and have even booked different ones. Each time I ended up cancelling and going back to the GF!

What I have done as a compromise is to split our stay, (I wish we could take more time off at once but it's hard for me to be away for more than 10 days), but we usually do three or four nights at one and then 3 or 4 at another. That way I can try something new and still be satisfied at knowing that I have booked the GF which (for me) is where I know I will want to be.

I too have had this discussion with the family about our upcoming trip. We have only stayed onsite once (Feb 03) and are returning FEb 04. I was booked at POR, just to try something different. However, due to the refurbishment of FQ, we decided not to stay there. We have been bouncing around other resorts but have decided that we will return to the Wilderness Lodge. I agree that the known is better than the unknown. I do hope to convince the rest of the family that we really need to try other resorts. We still may end up somewhere totally different before Feb gets here!!

I think splitting your stay is a great way to try out a new resort. The only problem I have is trying to decide whether to try a "new" resort at the beginning or end of our trip. Last year we did one night at ASMo (for ds) before moving to BWI for the rest of our trip. Even though we were only there one night, I now know that I am definitely a deluxe kind of girl! This year we will do 2 nights at HRH before moving to BCV. Next year I hope to do 2 nights at either the Poly or WL before going back to BWI.

So, even though it is a little bit of a pain changing hotels, I think it's well worth it to try something different!

I am a great believer in change, because it always opens the door to new and wonderful possibilities. When I changed careers after 15 years in the same field, I met the most wonderful guy in the world and married him.

DH and I stayed at Port Orleans (now FQ) three times because we loved it and it felt like our WDW home. However, for last year's trip we decided it was time to try something new and booked at Caribbean Beach. When they decided to close it for rehab during our travel dates, we were upgraded to the Poly for very little $$ and had our best WDW vacation to date!

We have yet to have a bad experience at any Disney resort we have been at. We also love to resort hop, even if it's just for one day (one day trips so far at All Star Sports, Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans - Riverside and French Quarter, and, this next trip, will be at Yacht Club for one day and Contemporary). No matter where we are on site, it is truly magical.

I see your concerns! I frequent WL, with various resorts stuck in between.I almost feel guilty about booking AKL for Dec. We've had such great luck at WL, but I want to try different theming. Who knows, you may find a resort that you absolutely fall in love with!

We have tried almost all the disney resorts. BWV's are one of our favorites...hubby and I love the one bedroom with a boardwalk view.

Once you stay at the BWV's, it will become your new favorite!

Hi there. I sure do have my favorites, but it is nice to try new ones. We've stayed at All-Star Music, Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian, Contemporary, Beach Club, and the Grand Floridian. Next year we'll be staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge and the BoardWalk Villas, and possibly the Beach Club Villas (haven't decided if we should take a 3rd trip or not). We'll also probably stay at the Grand Floridian with our BWV stay (since I haven't been to the GF in about a year, I'm missing it!) or try a new resort instead. It's fun to try a new place!

I am! I want to stay at the Beach Club or Polynesian but I love staying at the Contemporary! I enjoyed our stay at the Grand Floridian but I missed the walkway from the Contemporary to the MK and a several other things. My first on site resort was the Carribbean Beach which I absolutely love. We stayed there 3 consecutive vacations then tried the Contemporary which is my favorite resort now and it's been hard for us to stay somewhere else.

We have actually stayed at different resorts on every trip. But we are going back to the Boardwalk for our next 3 trips, we loved it so much! (Actually, we loved it so much we bought there ) But in January we will be spending a few nights at OKW before going over to the BWV. And next Sept (2004) we are going to try the Poly for a few nights before going back to the BWV.

I would definately try a new resort - have fun!!

Prior to becoming DVC members in 1992, we stayed in many resorts. The Contemporary was our “home” for many of our trips, but we’ve also stayed at: the Grand Floridian, the Poly, Beach Club (hotel and villas), Fort Wilderness (trailers), Port Orleans, Dixie Landings, Caribbean Beach, Club Lake Villas (@ the old Disney Village), & All-Star Sports.

It is rare for us to “wander” now because we love Old Key West so much, but occasionally we’ve stayed at other resorts for a night or two when OKW was booked. It is a nice way to see what it going on at the other resorts and to get out of your comfort zone. I will definitely check out the new DVC resort Saratoga Springs when it opens for a night or two. It’s fun to resort-hop!

Have stayed at the Polynesian every trip since day #1. We do make it a point to resort hop one day during our stays. DW had mentioned that since the kids are older, it may make sense to try an Epcot resort at our next WDW visit. I think that this idea is a good one, but the stubborn part of me still says Polynesian. Bottom line, it would not surprise/disappoint me if we spent next year at the Beach Club.

Don't be aprehensive. Your husband is correct, BWV is a great location. Walk or boat to EPCOT and MGM. Plenty of activity. BUT there aren't many lower cost food options.

Except for the AKL, because we just have not gotten to it yet, we have stayed at every resort on WDW property and many of the ones off site as well.
Each resort has their own atmosphere and price tag. I agree you should try some of the other ones.

I also agree with many of the other posters that there are +s and -s to each resort. The GF is probably my favorite overall, but love the Y&BC. We stay at the Allstars a lot if we are making a quick trip or wan t the cash for something else.

We are also DVC owners and that is it's own unique experience which in many ways is nicer than them all!
