In the new menu for Restaurant Akershus?

Now they've brought the princesses in for meals other than just breakfast, it looks to me like the choice on the menu has reduced by quite a lot. We had wanted to do this in August but I'm not sure we will now; I liked the idea of the cold buffet I could help myself to rather than having a platter of things brought to me (a lot of which I dislike).

Here's the new menu:

Taste of Norway
Fra Koldtbordt (from the Cold Table)

Smoked Salmon with Chilled Scrambled Eggs
Jarlsberg, Muenster and Brown Goat Cheese
Chicken Salad
Meat Salad
Potato Salad
Cucumber Salad
Smoked and Peppered Mackerel

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lunch Entree Selections

Braised Lamb and Cabbage
Served with thyme-infused oil and parsely

Grilled Chicken Salad
Grilled Chicken Breast sliced served over vegetable salad tossed in lime vinaigrette

Atlantic Salmon Nicoise Salad
Pan-seared salmon over salad greens, vegetables, sliced eggs, and tomato
tossed with bacon sherry vinaigrette

Savory Vegetable Tart
Layered potatoes, artichoke hearts, oven-dried tomatoes, black olives and Jarlsberg cheese, served on top of salad greens and drizzled with a balsamic reduction

Pasta Akershus
Fettucine tossed in a Chardonnay cream sauce with seasonal vegetables and topped with Jarlsberg cheese

Hearty Viking Favorites
Mashed Rutabaga
Boiled Potatoes
Meatballs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Royal Chef's Dessert Plate
served on one plate to be enjoyed by everyone

Traditional Rice Cream
Sweet, creamy, Rice Pudding topped with fresh Strawberry Sauce

Chocolate Mousse
Finished with a chocolate waffle and chocolate shavings

Lingonberry Tart
Topped with an Oatmeal Streusel

I have to admit, at first viewing, the menu doesn't seem especially appetising but, on re-reaading, I could certainly find enough there to keep my family happy. I think you will find that a lot of the dishes are far more appealing in reality than just written down (the salad list certainly seems very 'flat' but, knowing Disnmey, I'd be confident this would be a very tasty selection). I wouldn't mind betting that the braised lamb dish is absolutely delicious, while the vegetarian entree also sounds very good - and Disney have an excellent reputation for their vegetarian food (where you can find it). And hey, there are some vegetables for a change ! :teeth: The other thing that occurs to me is that they are trying hard to stay 'in theme' in Norway, which is quite difficult to do and come up with food that will appeal to the non-Scandinavian palate. The bottom line is, if people complain about the food there, Disney will quickly change it. They won't want to have a restaurant sitting half empty all day because the menu is off-putting.

AKerhus was one of my favourite places to eat when they had the old format of full buffet ( starters and entrees). As Simon says stuff that looks a bit dubious in black and white (on a menu) looks a whole look better in full technicolour when spread out in front of you. The starters, particularly the selection of fish ( smoked salmon, gravelax (sp?), prawns and pickled herrings etc) were excellent.

I was MASSIVELY dissapointed on my last visit when I went back and it had changed this set up (buffet starter and they bring the main course plated to your table). I found this particularly annoying because they were being quite stingy with the meat aspect of the plates and LOADING you up with veggies. IMHO one meatball on a plate of veggies is not sufficient. I might want 3,4or even 5 meatballs (or pieces of lamb) I certainly don't want 4 platefuls of boiled spuds. I don't feel comfortable sending back an 80% uneaten plate and asking for more. IMHO this set up is too inflexible, I even asked, "can I have a couple of meatballs without all the veggies" and was told that no, "that isn't possible, but we'll happily bring you as many full plates as you want and we'll throw away what you don't eat" IMHO that is a disgraceful waste.

I won't eat there until they change it back ( or do something different) and I plan on telling them so EVERYTIME I go into Epcot. As Simon says if they get enough feedback ( and empty restaurant) they will change.

Yes - I'm with Vernon here. I agree with you Simon, I guess I'm just disappointed it doesn't "measure up" (in my eyes ;) ) to the old one.

The "old" style menu with buffet appealed as you could help yourself to those bits you liked, and just ignore the ones you didn't fancy. They seem to have reduced the number of entrees too.

Very very disappointed as Akershus used to be a tradition for us to visit at least once each trip :(

Oh and I emailed WDW a while ago about this and they actually called me back to discuss my feelings! Not sure if it will help but they have changed things in the past due to people pressure.
Claire ;)
