Is Anyone Else Concerned With this Baby Formula Recall?

When I first read about the massive recall of baby formula I wasn't super concerned. My first DD hasn't had formula since 2007 and my DS since this past April. I thought there might be a possibility that my son may have had some of the contaminated formula, but since the canisters were long gone I was going to try not to worry about it. Today I received a letter in the mail from our local Sam's club stating that their records indicate that we purchased several canisters of the contaminated formula. I am FURIOUS. Even though I thought there was a decent chance this was the case, to have it confirmed makes me angry and worried. Earlier this year I went through the same concern after I learned that the Tylenol and Motrin I had been giving my kids for their fevers was also recalled. I am SO TIRED OF RECALLS!! Can't these companies do their jobs and provide products that we don't have to worry if this or that will be recalled after we've consumed it? Just the thought of my little son having beetle larvae in his system makes me so angry I can't even tell you. These people are idiots. You'd think that for a company that manufactures something that is designed for newborns it would have to undergo rigorous testing and quality control. Why are they JUST finding this now and some of the contaminated canisters are from 2008??? They should be testing these things regularly. The SAME goes for medicine or anything else. It really makes me very uneasy. I really hope this crap doesn't do any permanent damage to my children. And I don't care that they say the health risks are small. It is STILL a risk and they could be lying through their teeth to cover their own *** anyway.

Is this the recall that if your child had it they may have had a stomach ache??? I guess it wouldn't bother me, since the stomach ache would have been long gone by now, I haven't read of any long lasting effects, but maybe we're talking about a different recall.
I guess it doesn't bother me because they have recalls for a lot of things that for the majority aren't a problem - i.e. a small piece might fall off and cause choking - well, if I have the toy, and the small piece hasn't fallen off, and nobody has choked on it, then it's just a toy I send back or throw away. I think of the recalls of more of a precautionary thing, than an actual problem

Nope, and there has been plenty of recalls since I started having children. Most of them haven't been major - I thought the motrin thing was it wasn't potent enough?

I agree--most are because of something that MIGHT happen. I haven't read anything about this particular recall so I can't comment on it. Way back when Schwan's had a recall for salmonella. Some friends were taking calls from people that may have been effected by it. One woman called in yelling that they almost killed her DD. Turns out her DD has a rare immune disease, which, has she contracted salmonella probably would have killed her. It also turns out that the woman had never purchased Schwan's Ice Cream, her Dd had never EATEN Schwan's ice cream but on the off chance that she MIGHT have sometime down the road they almost killed her.

The only recall I worried about was the Tylenol one years ago where the psycho was putting cyanide into the Tylenol bottles.

Nope doesn't bother me at all.

And I hate to tell some of you but you eat bug parts every single day if you are eating processed food. It is impossible to have manufacturing processes run without getting bugs from the air or the trucks or the warehouses etc into the food, it won't hurt you and to say keep them all out we wouldn't be able to afford to eat!

Hey I look at it as added protein.

Exactly:thumbsup2

While the recall is gross...look on the bright side. When your kid comes to you with a mouthful of chewed up bug while playing outside, It won't be so traumatic;):)

Definitely bothers me as it is the formula that DD was drinking. Immediately stopped and now on the Target brand (which is actually cheaper, so thanks Similac!) Then there was the Fisher Price recall today. Thankfully we didn't have any of those toys, but it sure does seem that there are more and more recalls week after week.

I think the recalls are just so the companies can cover their behind if someone did get sick.

The idea of bug parts in baby formula is revolting. I know they're part of life, but eeeww!
