Is anyone else completely freaked out about may now?

After reading the other post with the revised crowd levels, Im a little nervous. Went from 3s and 4s to 7s and 8s for about the whole month....I was hoping mid may would be a good time to go and have been planning the trip for MONTHS....I figured school is still going on, and its before memorial day and everything, yet a week after the official kick off, but it looks like massive crowds and 2 hour waits for every attraction :sad2: Anyone else nervous? Is it possible to still enjoy it when its like this? I always only go in off season, maybe some of you that go when its real busy can give some tips on how to deal with it??

I wouldn't worry about the crowd levels too much. No sense in worrying about things you can't control right? :) Just bring your natural amusement and those 2 hour waits (if they indeed wind up 2 hours) won't be so bad. :)

A word of consolation though, I've been to WDW in June and July mostly, and even though it's been peak season with high projections, I've never had a hard time getting around. I never felt stiffled b/c of too many people around, and honestly on our last 2 trips in June we found the parks virtually empty, 20 minute lines were our longest waits, and the weather was beautiful. However, we don't do the more kid oriented rides like Snow White, just the things like Splash Mountain, TOT, Small World, etc. b/c we don't have kids. The lines for things like Snow White and other such rides (Peter Pan) were like 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours at times.

Have a great time and don't worry! May is bound to be quieter than the summer months, 50 year anniversary or none!

Wow,
After reading your message, I have to admit im a little scared. I will be going the week of the 9th of May. I also thought that it would be a good time to go to avoid the large crowds. Where do you get your "two hour wait time" figure, I dont understand that. I hope that you are inded wrong, for both our sakes.
2 hour waits on everything would be completly awful

Nope, not really...

Eh...if this trip is crowded, there's always the next one! It's not like we haven't done most thing over and over....except we've never really lounged around hotel for more than half a day.:cool1:

If this was my first and/or last trip, I would be a bit more concerned.

I will be at the Poly Memorial Day weekend. I'm not freaked out about crowds-just hoping for no rain! I was able to book the Storybook Princess dinner a few days ago and I just booked Donald's Breakfastsaurus yesterday and got 8:10 for Sat morning. We always arrive early, do what we can and we don't worry about what we don't get to do. When the lines get too long, do something else-get ice cream, walk around Main Street or head to the pool!

Not freaked out here either. We have been doing May for 12 years now and is has always been a moderate crowd. I fully expected it to be busier this year with the celebration. I had tried to warn folks earlier, but no one would listen to me. We are there 2 weeks, so that will help absorb all of the delays and crowds. But if all we do is rest by the pool, there's always another trip in our future. We have four more scheduled for this year.

I'm hoping it won't be too bad. I planned a while back b/4 I realized what week it was going to be, we are going the 4th-10th. Right in the mix of things! I'm just hoping it will make it more exciting not more annoying!

No. Fastpass is my very good friend :) The weather will be nice, the Flower and Garden Festival is going on, and I'll be in Disney World. Nothing could be better!
Use fastpass, and just enjoy yourself! Disney is fun whether the rides are walk-ons or not. Those queues are air conditioned and themed for a reason (but I still would rather use Fastpass)!

Just for fun I went to WDW website and entered the days we will be there (4-10). There were quite a few hotels that still had openings. Call me crazy but I am going to stick with being optomistic!
jovidan-I noticed that you have stayed at ASMR quite a few times. Any recommendations on which building we should try and stay at?

No, I am going to make the most of this. Since these are only projections, I am making my EMH and fast passes work for us!! Planning ahead will be to our advantage. Those who linger at the entrance gates to "map out" their plans are timewasters. :)

I have to admit, the new numbers do scare me a little. Me and the girls are going for a quick trip (May 13-16) and are doing the parks commando style. On the 14, my plans are to go to AK for EMH and then head over the Epcot for the rest of the day. My concern is that FP may be all gone for either TT, MS, or Soarin'. What do you guys think? Should I rearrange my itinerary?
:confused3

Hi,

Yes, I'm concerned about the crowds levels too for my friends as well in May due to the celebration. I personally know three, yes three, right here in my town that those folks are going during the second week in May. One friend mentioned that she went in May five years ago and the crowd levels were so low! But with this celebration in plan and I can't help thinking it's going to be more crowded than ever.

Susy, we'll be at Poly Memorial Day weekend too! See you there!

I see no reason getting freaked out...it is what it is....you are in disney..make the best of it....

a crowded day at WDW is better than any day at work

are you referring to the crowd levels on touring plans? it looks like they just have increased crowds that second weekend in may and then it settles down during the week...I kind of expected that

I'm not too concerned. I am going to hope for the best and have a back-up or two ready if they're needed. We plan to go back many more times so there is always next time.

I too am a little concerned, but not too much. We are heading down May 10-16 and figured we would miss the 50th Celebration opening hordes of people but the week of May 3rd has more hotel openings (appears week of the 10th all Disney resorts arer sold out). However in my endless planning, there appears to be some hope of the crowds not being too bad. An above post mentioned they just made reservations for preferred seating at the Storybook Princess and Breakfastsaurus at what look like prime times..I would normally think if the resorts are completely booked, then all good PS's would be gone too...but that doesn't appear to be the case...I had no trouble two weeks ago getting all my preferred PS's and even got a Wishes fireworks cruise with no problem...so the people are there but maybe not necessarily hitting the parks every day?? The triathletes will be busy competing and preparing and the Regis and whoever show staff will be busy doing the show and maybe not hitting the parks all day so it may not be too crazy.

Just relax, have fun and scan these boards to get helpful tips for all the Disney parks. These boards are fantastic with all the help they have provided me over the years in planning my trips. use fastpass whenever possible, EMH especially the morning extra hour is great.

They have taken back their EMH, etc. from their first week in May and resumed normal type schedule. I am thinking they don't feel numbers aren't up, yet. However, after May 5, the numbers go up a bit, but I think it is locals and those with AP wanting to be a part of history. Many are not going to take dc out of school for this when it is onsite for 18 mos.

I just went to the official Disney site and put in a quote request for May 10-20th and almost every hotel came up with availability. I don't think the 50th is going to draw the crowds to DW that people think, mainly, and I posted this on a similar thread, Disney isn't offering any special deals for the month of May, no 5 for 3 night, no special discounts on rooms, AP prices are higher then normal. Also, it is an 18 month celebration, without the special deals, people that want to see the celebration have plenty of time to go.

Susy and Minnie- We'll be at the Poly May 28th - June 4th! I'm planning to have a lime green bracelet on. Hope we see you! My name is Vicki, by the way ;)

I'm not too worried about May. I am planning for it to be more crowded than we're used to and working it out from there. If you take advantage of the EMH mornings you should be alright. It has worked for our family every year, crowds or no!
