Is Anyone Else Afraid of the Monorail?

Please don't laugh, but I always have loved the monorails around Disney. Last year while we were there we were riding and right before we entered the CR the monorail stopped and we just sat there:( . Man, I started looking down and felt a twinge of anxiousness, and then almost frieked the longer we sat there:hyper: :hyper: . We were actually stopped for awhile and I really wanted off by the time the mono started up again.

Anyone else ever feel this way? Maybe it's just me, but I was thinking "If this thing tips we are done"... Oh well, it's probably just me being me::yes::

I remember some time ago, a long time ago, it was on fire in mid route to EPCOT. I think I remember people having to be lowered down by rope or something.

Did this happen or am I remembering wrong?

Based on the people that drive cars or buses, it is a whole lot safer than the car. Also based on ferry captains, it a whole lot safer.

I'm not necessarily afraid of it, but we did get stuck on it last year during a rain storm. We were late for our PSs at Chef Mickey's and I was furious. It was packed and I was getting quite claustrophobic. It finally pulled into the MK station and then sat there forever too. All together, we must have sat on there for 25 minutes. We finally got off and chose to walk to the Contemp. Of course, then it started up again and drover over our heads! All I know is, make sure the kids go to the bathroom before getting on the monorail, especially if it's raining!!

The only time I've gotten anxious on them was one July night when a massive and violent storm came through, and there was lots and lots of lightening strikes close to us... they had to stop us on the track, just overlooking trees, and turned out the lights... it was creepy sitting there in the dark, and it was raining so hard outside that you could hardly see out the windows to watch the storm aynways! I kept thinking it was perfect makings of a horror film!

I get that claustrophobic thing sitting on planes. I think it's interesting that during a storm they would stop the monorail with people on it. Wouldn't it be safer to pull to the next stop and let people get off? Are we in any more danger being a moving target(just to the next stop) than we are just sitting there?

You are much safer inside that monorail than you would be outside, considering disney monorail stations are all outside, it would be better to keep you in the train, Even if the train were to get struck by lightning it would not affect those inside.

One year we were on there when it was hailing out, they told everyone to move away from the windows into the center of the car....it didn't last long though and I can't recall the exact year.

When we were there in Jan. the dang thing stopped on a curve so we were stranded there TILTED to the left for about 15 minutes. About 3 minutes after we got started again, it stopped AGAIN!!! This time we were tilted to the right. Oh yeah, it was raining, dark and they turned the lights out. Maybe they were trying out a new thrill ride and forgot to tell us?? It's a good thing I know lots of calming, deep-breathing exercises. I had a hard time keeping from scaring my kids.

Obviously, we survived, but I think we'll be renting a car next time. The plane ride was bad enough. I'll keep my feet firmly on the ground as often as possible!

I haave to admit I hate when it stops mid route for any lenght of time. I really really hate height.:headache:

We have been stuck as well, at night, tilted one way, way way way up high packed in like sardines with no room to breathe. They kept announcing for people to step away from all the doors! I was next to a door and thought for sure the thing was going to open and I would pop right out and down! We were stuck there for over 30 minutes! I either take the boat now or go on the monorail when I can sit.....totally freaked me out.
