Is anyone booking a back-up trip?

I'm curious if you guys think I need to book a back-up trip. We booked April 2021 (resort and ticket package). I was thinking that in case the coronavirus situation hasn't improved by then I would also book August 2021. However, I forgot about having to book trip insurance at time of booking. I'm guessing if I cancelled one of these trips I wouldn't get the trip insurance money back? Since I just paid $377 (deposit plus trip insurance) for the first trip, I don't really want to pay another $377 right now with the possibility of permanently losing $177. (We only plan on going one time next year.) But I'm worried that if we can't go in April that I won't be able to get park reservations for August. What would you do? Thanks.

I'm not.

If things are still shut down, or shut down again next Spring, we will have bigger problems than going to WDW at that point. I'd be more concerned about my job than a vacation.

Yeah I think we're booking late April and if things aren't up to snuff, we'll just cancel that one. We're already rolling over our refund from the may trip into next year's so we have extra money to play around with.

I'm not even married to the dates yet so I might just book my "dream" trip and see what my husband thinks later.

I did this, but I planned a trip in late March 2021 to be a backup for our end of October trip for this year that I don't have tickets for yet, and not sure I'll be able to. If I have to cancel both I will be sad, but I think it would mean bigger things to worry about at that point... but yes, currently I have two trips planning :) Maybe I'll go nuts and get to do both lol.

Correct. Travel insurance is not refundable.

Personally, I think its too early to worry about April 2021. Wait and see how things play out and evolve once the parks actually re-open. If you still want to book a back up trip, you can do so without the insurance and still have peace of mind that you can cancel up to 30 days in advance in the worst case scenario, assuming you're booking a package. In the current situation, I believe the cancellation policy has been extended until shortly before travel, but if that goes back to normal by next year, you'd still have until 30 days prior to cancel for a refund.
