As bad in person as it looks in pictures? The actual resort area looks adorable but the rooms look icky! I'm not that concerned if it isnt the nicest place since all we need is a bed we dont plan to spend to time much time there but i was just a little surprised at how outdated the rooms look...

I've been to all the value resorts in the last 12 months...I wouldn't really consider any of them "icky" (however, I don't actually know what your definition of "icky" is)...

POP Century is the newest...however, they are, indeed "value resorts"; meaning minimal "perks". They are in no way dirty, run-down or not maintained to WDW's standards however, they are not as fancy as you'd find at the Moderate resorts.

It's important to note that they are themed designs so the drapes, carpets, spreads in Sports rooms are designed to be '70's sports themed; Pop Century is designed to be 50's & 60's themed; Music is designed to be 80's and 90's themed; etc. If "icky" in your meaning is to say that they may look outdated, much of that is intentional.

Please forgive me if my reference to 'icky' appears ignorant. Not intended to offend - just thought I'd offer some clarification.

They are certainly not what I'd consider a MOTEL 6. I've stayed at the following:

Dec06 - Movies
Jan07 - Sports
Feb07 - Pop Century
Mar07 - Port Orleans
May07 - Caribbean Beach Resort
Aug07 - Pop Century
Sep07 - Coronado Springs Resort
Nov07 - Music
Dec07 - Sports

We stay at whichever resort is running a "special" rate for Florida residents at the time we are intending on going. I also must tell you that the "value" resorts have elevators...the "moderate" resorts do not. Strange, I know, but you have to hoist your luggage up flights of stairs; somewhat inconvenient if you don't know ahead of time.

Have a great stay!!!

Sorry - icky was a strong word i sort of over reacted. I just meant it looked outdated... but, it makes sense if it's supposed to be 70's themed. I did not realize that! I did stay there in 1997 when i was 12 and it was fine i just assumed they routeinly updated the beddings and things like that so i was surprised to see what appears to be the exact same ones. Like i said though, it makes sense now that i know it's a 70's themed place.

Well, I went to All Star Sports in May and had a blast. I didn't think the rooms were 'icky' at all. I thought they were very true to Disney.

We just got back yesterday from staying at Sports. We had a refurbished room in Touchdown. The room was really nice.Even my husband commented on it(he usually doesnt even notice)Everything smelled new.Very happy with my room this time.

The rooms are supposed to be 70s themed? I didn't read that anywhere and when we stayed there in August, that wasn't the impression that I got.

The rooms are actually great. The housekeeping, imo, is a whole other issue. I'd use "icky" to describe it.

I think maybe the rooms the OP is talking about are the rooms that haven't been refurbished yet!!! I don't know about "icky", but I do think the older rooms look wore out and in desperate need of updating!! I do think the refurbished rooms look great (according to the pics) and am planning to stay there next year!!

We stayed in the All Stars Sports Resort in May 2005. We thought it was very niice, didn't think the rooms were icky or dated at all. My boys especially loved it being sports fans!!

We have stayed at all of the values and AS Sports in my opinion is as bad as it looks. Run down moreso that the others. POP is by far the nicest and newest.

Thank you all! Like i said, by icky i meant outdated...

Does anyone have pictures of the refurbished rooms? Anyone know if they are all done? I read in another post that they're being re done this summer up until November...

Here's some pics for you from August. This is a handicapped room and it looks to have been refurbished.

We stayed at Sports in August. We stayed at Movies in April. Our room at Movies was definitely worse than our room at Sports.

We just got back on 10/30 from a 5 day stay at All Star Sports. In my opinion, it was the outside of our building that was icky and the inside of the room was adorable. We were stuck WAY out in left field of the Home Run Hotel even though I requested Touchdown 7 months ago (I know, it's ONLY a request, no guarantees). Home Run was the nastiest shade of moldy green I've ever seen. And the decorations around the railings, etc. were dull and boring. And the walk to our room at the end of a long day was MISERABLE! Once we got in our newly refurbished room, we were very comfortable and I thought the new carpet was sooooooo cute! The bedding and table were also cute with Mickeys on them. I was just a little disappointed there were no hidden Mickeys in the bathroom area! I don't think all of the rooms have been refurbished yet. I do know, however that the pictures posted above in this thread are the old design, not the newly refurbished one.

What is the new design? I assumed it was refurbished because someone said the old design was supposed to be 70s and our room didn't seem 70s-themed in the least.

Warning: I am severly technology-challenged. I am attempting to put a photo or link to a photo I found of the new rooms at All Stars Music. The new rooms at All Star Sports are nearly identical, only sports-themed art on the walls and curtains.
So here goes:

Well, I can't figure out the picture thing.
I hope the link works. If not, go to the Disney Resort room photo thread and look at page 89. You may even find pictures of the rooms at ASSp.

I looked at that photos I really don't see the big difference between the new design and the old.

We are staying at ASsports in less than 2 weeks. From the other posts and reading I've done, most rooms should be re-furbed by then/now. It will be our first on property stay, so I'm excited either way, but I'm hoping the new rooms will be an extra perk. Like you said, I don't really care about hotel (esp. on our budget) its just a place to sleep. But I am excited about staying on Disney property and the perks involved. Mostly, I just want comfortable and clean. Keeping my fingers crossed!
!

The OP should definately go moderate or deluxe if she's concerned she'll get an "icky" room. I think the posts about the value resorts and what they may be lacking are getting old. They are a VALUE choice for vacationers. They aren't promising you luxury rooms and surroundings at value prices. Get over it!

If you are that affected by your rooms decor or the resort theming for the amount of time you are going to be there...then you should definately ante up some more money and reserve rooms in either a moderate or deluxe.

Personally, I've stayed at two moderates, POR (Alligator Bayou) and CBR. Both were beautiful and we loved them....but raising kids is only getting more and more expensive so we tried Sports last time. It was great! Was it worn a little? Yes. Were some of the aesthetics in need of refurb? Yes. None of these issues ruined our stay there. We aren't at the resort very much, even in January when the parks close earlier, and when we are there the themeing is just pure Disney.

Does anyone know where to find pictures of the refurb'd All Star Sports rooms? I'm not having any luck doing a search, and I'm really curious... just excited w/ anticipation I guess! Thanks.

We will be there in Dec. Is the surf's up pool back up and running?
TIA!
