Is AKL for a short weekend a mistake?

You guys are going to think I'm really wisshy-washy!

We have a great deal on AKL Concierge for Memorial Day weekend. I've been reading a lot of posts regarding this resort, and one thing has me concerned--convenience to the parks. I know that AKL has total bus transprtation, and that it is far away from most parks, but this hasn't scared me away from the resort. Last night, however, I read that the bus transportation during busy times of the year is a real headache. My wife and I like to spend a lot of time at the resort, so we usually take a couple of hours each day to travel back for a swim and lunch, etc. Am I going to find the bus transprtation too big of a pain on a busy weekend to want to make this commute a lot? Should I consider this resort for another, less crowded weekend? Please let me know what you think. I have held a WV room @ the BC that I need to put a deposit on today if I'm going to keep it (this room is about $200 cheaper than AKL Concierge.) Please tell me what you think!

You won't regret staying at the AKL. And if you'll be there Friday night, see if you can get on the Sunrise Safari on Saturday morning. It might be booked by now, but it's worth a try.

I spent a week at the AKL last year on two different trips. Concierge is great and the resort is incredible.

We're going back, just for a night, in August. We drive down from S.E. PA (straight through) and we're going to spend our first day there to show the lodge to the kids and to relax around the resort for the day (we'll be pretty tired after driving through the night). We're doing this mostly to take the kids on the Sunrise Safari. After the Sunrise Safari, we're going to check into the BWV. We have a teenager who will want to spend a lot of time on the Boardwalk.

Here's a link to Sunrise Safari pictures.

If you want one of the most relaxing disney vacations ever, take the weekend at the AKL. You will be spoiled. You may never desire to leave the resort. And, if you decide to do this, you must get a savannah view room. Treat yourself to a morning coffee on the veranda, put your feet up, and watch the giraffes! It will be a weekend you won't forget. It truly is a unique experience. Can you tell it's my favorite resort?

We returned from a long weekend at AKL yesterday. We loved the resort, will stay there again. But DH and I both missed the convenience of staying at a resort a little closer to the parks.

We have stayed at BC (just bought BCV). We love the ease of getting back to the resort for a break! It was more of a hassle to get back to AKL. Uses up alot more time. Next time we stay at AKL, we will do it as part of a trip. Enjoy the resort at AKL, then move to BCV to enjoy the parks.

We spent several nights there last May and thought it was a wonderful resort! It might me a little further away from some of the parks - but I didn't notice it at all. Bus service was great - no more than 5 or 10 min wait. We also stayed on a concierge floor and thought it was fabulous. Don't miss out on this resort - you've made a wise choice.

Thanks for reasuuring me. I thbink we'll stay with the AKL! Besides, it is hard to give up concierge!

I hope it's good place for a short weekend. We're leaving tomorrow for three nights at the AKL.

We're renting a car though. We had terrible experience with busses at YC last November.

We live in Miami and on our way back from Charlotte last year, spent one night at AKL just to break up the drive. All we did we stay at the hotel that night. It was breathtaking. Shopped, ate dinner, walked around the whole hotel and looked at the animals. Sat on our balcony and watched 6 giraffes almost all night. The rooms are beautiful and done in gold/brown tones with dim lighting. I can't wait to return to this hotel at some point. I loved the smells and colors and best CM's on property. Definately stay there IMO. :D

After reading the comments on the boards about bus service I was a little worried about our Easter week vacation, but the service was great. The ride to MK is a little longer, but there are no additional stops-it really wasn't a problem. We used the buses all week, and returned each afternoon-the rental car was a complete waste of money.

I've been thinking that AKL is a great place for a short stay--like a quick 3 or 4 day weekend. We were scheduled to do it last year in mid Sept and we didn't go. I think that it would be great for just R and R. Parks or not. We hardly ever really rest at WDW and it would be a treat just to look at the animals, lie around the pool and eat there for a short weekend. Sunrise safari would be great, too. We saw the resort on our trip in April when we ate at Boma, a definite must do!
