Is airfare expensive on Jan 1?

I am thinking of booking a trip leaving on Jan 1. I was wondering if anyone has any experience travelling on this day. My first question is will it be very crowded and overbooked with travellers trying to get home from holiday travel? And my second question is will the airlines have higher prices for this day since it is a holiday? Currently I am seeing fares that are ok, but not great. I am willing to wait longer for airfare sales, but was wondering if they will go down for this day or not.

Luckily this year Jan 1 falls on a Sat, so hopefully most travellers will wait until Jan 2 to return home.

We're travelling on Jan. 1 on Jet Blue and the fares are the highest they can possibly go!!!!! They have't budged since May, when I started watching them.

We have a return flight on Jan 1st on US AIR that I booked 2 months ago($190)......MCO to Pittsburgh.

Are they ever! I have never traveled on holidays until this Jan. We are going to Utah Dec 27-Jan 1. Little did I know what I would be paying to fly there from Maryland. The best deal I could get was $387 a person r/t. This still has one stopover in Ohio. This is through Delta. I hate SW but thought I would try to get a deal when the dates came out but no such luck. They were the highest at $798 a person! Live and learn. I guess I should be grateful that I got seats for all 5 of us on the dates we needed them.

I was hoping for more encouraging news. I can currently get a ticket around $200.00. (There are often sales for just over #100.00.) Maybe I should take that and not wait any longer.
