Is a two bedroom overkill?

Just looking for some impartial opinions. We had a great vacation booked for August at the 7 month window... 3 nights on developer points at SSR, and then 6 nights at BLT, all in a 1BR. Due to DD1 finding out in April that she had to be back at school earlier than expected, we debated keeping things as is, and just sending her home early, but decided to adjust the trip so it stays the family trip we were all expecting. Of course, BLT was not available and I wasn't about to play the wait list game at such a late date. The only other place with availability was OKW, but we decided it was not worth changing rooms for such a similar resort. I'd rather just stay there another time.

We booked the entire stay in the 1BR at SSR, but I've been bothered about the one bathroom/shower with 3 females ever since. DH is usually the first one up, and then is stuck waiting for the rest of us to shower and get ready. Just for the heck of it, I looked into a 2BR. It is only 29 more points total than we were originally using with the BLT trip, and 43 more points than we are currently using with the 1BR. I like the idea of having a second bathroom, DD2 hates sharing a bed, so this would get them each their own bed without having to bring an air mattress, and we have a living area that isn't being used as a bedroom, which will be nice in the morning for those who are ready to go... Be on the balcony, have breakfast, tv, etc.

So... Am I crazy?

I don't think you're crazy. I would spent the extra points for the extra bathroom and the exta space.

Given the ages of your girls and if you are willing to part with the extra points I would go with the 2 bedroom.

I have 3 kids 17,15 & 11, so the extra bath is always nice.

2 years ago the 5 of us stayed in a 1br at AKV Kidani becasue we didn't have enough points. Having the extra bath was awesome. Have you thought about Kidani? They also have a sleep chair so your girls wouldn't have to share a bed. DD thought it was very comfy...no complaints from her :).

I agree with PPs! Get the 2 bedroom. You will be able to relax as a family in the living area, not worry about waking each other as one or another gets up in the morning, have the extra bathroom, and best of all, the girls don't have to sleep on a pull out couch!

:goodvibes

I have a DS17 and a DS15, and we always stay in a 2 BR. They don't like sharing a bed, and we like having the living room space. Two bathrooms are a must! The only way I would do a 1 BR is at Kidani, so that they'd have the two sleeping spaces (with the pullout chair) and the two bathrooms. (But I usually go with the value 2 BR at Jambo instead.) I think BLT has the pullout chair and two bathrooms as well. If we are taking a quick trip (1-2 nights), we'll stay in a studio to save points, but this has happened only once.

You're not crazy. Sometimes DH treat ourselves to a 1 bedroom for just the 2 of us, even though a studio is plenty big. It's so nice to have the extra space. Just wish we had enough points to do it every trip.

I don't think you're crazy at all. My two kids (DS15 & DD12) and I are staying in a Treehouse later this summer. We were going to have another couple with us, but they cancelled, and the kids were so excited about the Treehouse, I decided to just keep the reservation. We're only planning on going to the parks two out of eight days, so I think we'll really enjoy the extra space and having our own bedrooms.

We always get a 3 bedroom for the 3 of us, we have our own bedrooms and baths at home and at Our Home Away From Home, if not we are not happy campers. It is the main reason we bought DVC, larger accommodations.

Not at all crazy - in addition to the extra bathroom, it is so nice to have the living area & kitchen free for those who get up early or stay up late. You're going to love it!

We had four of us in a two bedroom villa at VWL for the marathon and it was really very nice.

Love the extra space...we usually have the one bedroom villa for 3-4 of us, but are excited to have the 2 bedroom for our upcoming trip!!! Love to have space!!!

We only book 2 bdr our teens don't want to share a bed and I agree with previous poster that the reason for a timeshare is to have more space.

go for the 2 bedroom. It's so much nicer when no one is sleeping in the living room.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I have to admit, I was surprised that nobody suggested saving the points and keeping the 1BR! To the pps who recommended Kidani, that is our home resort, and we would stay there in a heartbeat, but first, we have been to AKL many times, even before our DVC ownership and we were looking to try something different, and second, it wasn't available :(. BLT does have the two bathrooms and sleeper chair as well, which is why we reserved there originally, but that was not available for our new dates either.

DH agreed to the switch, but unfortunately, it is a no-go. I just called MS and was told that any modifications to a reservation made with developer points will cause us to forfeit those developer points. That explains why my current reservation is 3 nights our points, 3 nights developer points and then 2 nights our points again, with 3 separate confirmation numbers. They had to leave the developer points as originally booked and add nights around them. Its not a horrible problem. We will still be at Disney. I just know for next time, to make sure we look at all of our options and the point costs without assuming it will be too costly.

If we have more than 3 people, we think a 2 bedroom is not just an option...it's essential!

For 43 points difference, I'd take the 2 bedroom. I always get the best room I can afford. It's vacation after all. How can you relax when you are waiting for a bathroom in the morning.

My last trip was in a 2 bedroom with my brother, sister in law, and neice and nephew. The extra space was essential, the extra bathrooms were a real luxury. Kidani Village---3 bathrooms no waiting. :goodvibes

Have a wonderful trip.

i find the extra bathroom worth the pts.::yes::

also it is a must if you have teenage boys and little girls with you! :thumbsup2i am glad to have that option.
