My DD15 loves her iphone...For Christmas I got her the WII U as she loves retro games like Zelda, Mario and Pokémon. I found a great deal on a Nintendo 3ds xl and wondered it that is still cool for a teen? Thoughts? She has a regular ds but commented before the NEW games don't work with it so I guess you can't grow your game collection...

I think that most teens now just play games on their phones and even our 8 year old will lay down his DS and ask for one of our phones. It might be fun for a few games, but unless it was really really a great deal, it may not be worth the cost.

My teens (almost 16 and 17) still play their 3DS's. They both had 3DS games on their Christmas lists. They do play computer, phone, and Xbox games but love those Nintendo classics!

Good thx for feedback I bought too much as usual but this was a nice deal!

It's a good bet.

My DD15 AND DS20 both asked for a 3DS for Christmas. DS is reliving his childhood with Pokemon, Mario Brothers, etc. and I got a good deal at Best Buy on Black Friday. DS is still using his old Gameboy Advance SP.

DD was too late off the mark asking for it -- she's getting a camera with video for camp (every year as we're getting ready in July she asks for one but forgets by December).

DD 18 got the special Pikachu 3ds xl in may from her bf, and plays it often, and even took it to college. She bought her BF the retro NES looking 3ds xl for Xmas. (shhh, it's a secret!:ssst: )
She said lots of students at her university have them, and feel they're more fun than just playing on a phone. No need to worry about internet or even a strong wifi/phone signal.
Of course, having a rare model gets her a lot of attention, and offers to buy it for at least $100 than it cost. Of course, the answer is no,lol.

My 15 year old got the XL right after it was released - several Christmases ago. He played with it for about a year, and hasn't touched it since. None of his friends play the Nintendo DS anymore - Xbox One only now, and their phones of course!

My daughter, 16, asked for the DS XL (she never upgraded her old DS which she still plays with)! Her friends still play with their DS games too. We have the WII and she never touches it. I guess it really depends on your child's interest.

My 18yo son wanted a 3DS but I told him no.

Reason being : He had a DSi and we ended up selling it, including one game that was STILL IN ORIGINAL PLASTIC because he never played it.

He is more of a XBox360/PS3 kind of kid and I know that he would not play it enough. It would be something that he would play with for about a week maybe and then it would not be touched.

Sears had the 2DS on sale for $80 - a great deal - and I thought about it for a split second, but was like "no way".

the new pokemon games seem to be a hit with my kid(15) and all her friends. the in game last year for them was animal crossing but now they all sit at the mall comparing pokedexes.

Thanks! Would you mind asking her what is a hot good pokemon game to get for the 3ds

Pokemon X or Y are good. Either one -- they are the same game, but each has slightly different pokemon options in-game. (The newest Pokemon games for 3DS are Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, but I'd probably go with X or Y to start, because it can be found cheaper and is really good -- Ruby and Sapphire are revamps of a previous Pokemon game.)

Other good games for the 3DS for future reference:

Mario Kart 7
New Super Mario Bros 2
Yoshi's New Island
Animal Crossing New Leaf
Several Zelda games (Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Link Between Worlds)
Fantasy Life
Persona Q

THanks! I will look into these. I know she has X and Y and Ruby and a green one from her OLD DS so I am hoping they are compatible with the NEWER system but maybe not? I did get the retro game I referenced earlier so I might let her use gift card money to pick out another game. This whole system was an add on extra, something I hadn't planned to get but DID get a good deal on so I might let her do the investing on the games. But I will share the list with her after she opens it. THANKS!

Another game that recently came out is Smash Bros, both of mine asked for it along with the new Ruby and Sapphire Pokemon. You really can't go wrong with games if it's Mario, Pokemon or Zelda!

my teen ds just bought a 3ds,and some games, he plays it with all his friends,in addition to the other games they play, it's still popular

Can I ask where you found the really good deal. The best I have found so far was 150 on Black Friday

Thanks

Agreed. We have the new Super Smash Bros. for 3ds and Wii U, and both are excellent. DS is getting 5 amiibo characters for Christmas, and we are excited to see how they work with the game. We have every Mario game made for the 3ds and all are great. :goodvibes

Pokemon X and Y were the first 3ds games that came out last year(now about $34 on Amazon). Just this October, Nintendo came out with the reboots from the Game Boy Advance days of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire(going anywhere between $40 and $50 at the moment). X and Y were downright addictive not just catching and trading Pokemon locally, but being able to trade around the world via the Internet. I imagine the Ruby/Sapphire reboots will be just as good.
