Is A My Twin Doll Worth The $$$ For An 8 & 1/2 Year Old

I have been looking to buy my youngest daughter, whom will be 9 in April, a my twin doll. I showed my DH and he almost had a heart attack at the price ! His objection got me thinking is she to old to spend so much on a doll? I must confess she is my youngest; I really like the fact I can still but her little girl stuff! My other DD is almost 12, step daughter almost 14, and step son 15 are all to old to play with toys. They all want expensive gifts which means only a few gifts each. Am I just trying to cling on to my daughters childhood or it worth the expense to buy her this doll? I would love to know how much your girls play with them and if they are of real quality?

we got my DD one a few years ago when she was about your DDs age. Its a nice quility doll, and its something that she really wanted, but she was never really a doll person and it didn't get a lot of play. I would say we got our monies worth out of it, but its not something that she played with all the time for hours on end.

We played with it about as much as she played with her american girl dolls. She enjoyed having them, but thats about as far as it went.

Good question - I have been considering one for my DD who will be 5 in October. She answered my question though when I showed her the catalog and she kept wanting ones with dark hair (she is blond). She didn't "get it". So - we'll wait a year or so I think.

We purchased one for our DD a couple of years ago when she was 7, and probably spent close to $200 with outfits, etc. Yes, the doll looked like her and it was of good quality. It was kind of neat to see a doll in our DD likeness. She played with it for a while along with her other dolls, but eventually the doll ended up being piled onto other dolls in her doll basket in her room. She's got tons of Barbie dolls, Bratz-dolls, and baby-dolls that she plays with too...

My dd got her first AG doll this past Christmas when she was 9. I wanted to make sure she would take care of it if I made the investment. When she turned 10 we went to the AG store in NYC. She bought a second doll and she plays with her dolls quite often.

While I don't expect her to play with dolls forever, I love the fact that she is 10 and still wanting to play with them.

We bought our daughter age 6.5 an American girl doll and some outfits for her last birthday and she plays with her all of the time, She brings her everywhere with her. Of course, we do not buy alot of dolls. We buy a few expensive well-made dolls and that is it. Her 5.5 year old sister recieved an Adora baby doll for her birthday and she also carries it around with her constantly and plays with it non-stop. It was about $95.00 without extra outfits but she plays with it so much and takes such good care of it that I overlooked the price (as does my stingy DH now LOL!!!! )

I also think that your husband would want his baby to stay a BABY as LOOOONG as possible -----i know mine would. Money would be no object. and as I stated before money does not leave his hands easily!

I think these dolls are really cool. If your DD is really into dolls I believe this will be worth it. I also look at them as heirloom dolls. Something to keep forever, not to give away when she grows out of doll playing, if only because the dolls are such good likenesses.

What I would do if I were you though would be to check the QVC website or wait about a month or so. The regular Christmas shows will be starting up soon and order from QVC. They will probably beat the prices you see on the MyTwinn website. They are hugely popular items for the channel so they always sell them at Christmas. Usually they get featured for the Christmas in July shows too, but not this year cause they introduced the MyTWinn babydolls. I bought that for my soon to be 3yr old neice's Christmas present.

I actually order her the my twin baby doll from QVC Xmas in July; I was dissopinted in it when I recived the card to fill out and returned it. I figure I if I was going to spend 70 dollars on a doll I wanted it to at least look like her!

Back when I got my DD her "twin" the earlier your order was placed, the less expensive it was. Seems like I only paid $79 for it by ordering in Sept or something along those lines. She loved her doll, she will be 15 in a couple of days and that doll is still sitting out in her room. She got too big for the cute Disney tees from DS but the doll looks nice in those xx-smalls.

The doll looked so much like her, I sent a picture along and marked each freckle or mole on the order form and the twin has them in the exact spots. We look at it as something that will be around for a long time. And don't worry about the quality, DD's has been well loved and is in really good shape. But if anything happened to her, she can be returned for "medical" attention.

Check out the "My Twinn Friend" link on the website too. They are dolls that are already made for much less (starting at $34). You just may luck out and find one that looks like your DD. My DD10 has a my twinn baby and while they are pretty good quality, clothes were hard to find because they are larger than most dolls. DD now has 3 American Girl dolls (Bitty twins & Jess) that she likes MUCH more.

Grandma and Grandpa bought my DD a My Twinn doll when she was 4. She is nearly 10 and still plays with it from time to time. We always take advantage of the January clearance sale and get good deals on clothes for the 2 of them. And ebay is always a good place to find outfits. I just got an email with a code for $20 off...it says 'lowest price of the season.' (Of course, the dolls get more expensive the closer you get to Christmas.) DD has a My Twinn and I think it's a good keep-sake. It really looks like her and even has freckles just like her, I told them where they were. It's a nice quality doll. I second Ebay for clothes, you can get a lot of geniune My Twinn things on Ebay especially around Christmas. I say as long as your DD wants a doll, buy her one. DD got two AG dolls last Christmas to add to her collection and she just turned 11. A lot of girls even older than her collect them and yes occasionally they get played with.

Funny, I also was just wondering about the My Twinn dolls. I had never heard of these dolls until someone posted a sale on that site several months ago. I picked up some very inexpensive clothing for my 2 dd's. Then I started exploring the site and wondering about a doll.

My oldest dd is 7 and very much into dolls, but I can see she is less and less into baby dolls and looking more for older looking dolls (though she has never had any interest in barbie type dolls).

We have looked at the AG girl dolls together, but the history stuff (much to my dismay because I love it) leaves her cold. So an AG doll makes less sense. Plus, I can pick up on ebay matching clothes to what I already have for dd for a My Twinn doll. So more and more I am leaning towards a My Twinn doll for Christmas.

As for an actual twin...I am torn. DD also seems less interested that the doll look just like her (we have looked at the site together several times). I may save the money and just order a my friend doll...there are several dd really liked.

What about the size of these dolls? They are significantly bigger than the AG dolls, has anyone had a dd not like the size of the doll? Any quality issues with these dolls? Ooops, not trying to hi jack the thread - sorry!

The dolls are 23" instead of the AG 18" and they are fully poseable. The quality is just as good as AG and the customer service was excellent when I had a concern. The dolls usually go on sale around the holidays as a matter of fact I got an email saying they were having a special and have tons of the my friends marked down to $49.99. We have several of the cuddly sister dolls and poseable pets as well, the cuddlys are 12" and have a bean type body but are so cute.

I second that. I got 2 that look exactly like my girls. They couldn't have been closer if they were custom made. I saved a ton of money to boot. No one can tell they weren't the custom ones and comment on how much they look like my girls.
