I know the moderates have great pools, queen beds and better food options, but is it really $760 worth better? That just seems like a lot of dough. We are a family of 6 meaning two rooms.

For us no. We go during FD and prefer the QSDP so that is a big part of it for us. For us the upgrade was alot because we go for 11 days. We added a preferred room and added WP&M tickets and still saved 600.00.

Now the values are getting fridges so that is one less thing. I will say the moderate are really nicley themed and most have queen beds and pool slides.

If you have the available cash, the upgrade to the moderates is quite nice. Free fridges, more pools, more food courts and access to restaurants. Covered bus stops, etc. If those things are important to you, I would consider it.

If you feel cash-strapped, I would wait for another trip when you felt you had a bit more breathing room.

If it were a once in a lifetime trip, then I would say yes. Other than being stuck in the hotel room with a stomach virus on the last trip, we don't stay in our room much. Personally, I would rather spend the money on a special meal, souvenirs, or even the NEXT vacation. That's just how I prefer to do things, others feel that it's not a Disney vacation without a Deluxe. Do what's right for your family! :)

not sure if that has been confirmed. The have used the term Cool box or something to that. Which is not really a fridge.

Also there are Hot Tubs at Mods & if you go with RS or POFQ use can use pools at both resorts & they have the boat to DTD. And Queen Beds at POFQ.

For us yes. I much prefer a moderate over a value. The bedding is nicer, it just feels less harried. Plus the extras are great. The fridge, bigger beds, pool slide.

That being said, I'm staying at a value on my next trip because I need the savings between the 2 for something else.

I'm glad you've asked this as there is a lot of good info here.

I've recently changed my upcoming trip from POP to POR. We are staying 9 nights so the additional cost is almost $600. Seems really steep when it will just be my 3yo DD and myself and many of these 'upgrades' are things we will not need or use.

Hmmm....still not sure which way I'll go with this one.

..Is a moderate worth $760 over a value?? .. .

Per night ? No .... probably not :rotfl:

For a 7 -10 night trip .... probably. It depends on whether or not the resort is simply a place to sleep or you take the time to enjoy all the resort has to offer. :confused3
"worth" is a very subjective term and tough for others to determine for you.

As a PP has mentioned before- worth is a completely subjective term. What would be a reasonable charge for some is budget straining for others. And you do not mention in your OP how long you are staying.

Frankly you couldn't pay me to stay at a value, and that again is a completely subjective thing, but I'm happy to pay for a mod. We really value the extra amenities that the mods provide, especially the extra square footage in the rooms. This becomes increasingly important as the kids get older (and bigger!!) Again, I don't know the specifics of your family makeup, so it's hard to say how much this comes into play for you.

The only thing I could recommend is to go with whichever resort you are more comfortable with. If it means not fretting about expenses for the entire trip, then stick with the values. If you can manage the mod without financial hardship, then by all means, switch over to the mods.

I just moved us from 2 rooms at Movies Preferred Room (value) to Caribbean Beach Standard, 2 rooms. We have the free dining and were upgrading to the Regular Dining Plan, so the extra cost is about $400 more.

Why? Because apparently for my husband, the pools with less people is high on his list, the closer to the park exit the better. We are travelling with all 5 of the boys, and no stroller, so this was important to us, and the fact the bus stops on resort are covered. We only sleep in the room, don't hang out, but go back to the resort mid day sometime to swim and change for the evening. So he did not want a packed pool area.

It is all preference. Think about what you must have, what you can go without, and have a budget in mind, what you want to spend and what you absolutely can not spend.

Well I'm eating my words right now. LOl We are upgrading dh really wants to do HDDR and that alone is 200.00. So it looks like a moderate for us.

We're in kind of the same boat. We've stayed at every value, but have never stayed at a mod...but we're currently booked for POFQ next month.

I got a free dining pin, but it only had mods available by the time I realized I had it. So we upgraded...but I have to admit I've been feeling pretty dumb for spending more than $700 more in the hotel room to get $800 in "free" dining. I've been questioning my decision.

But here's what I'm telling myself. I've always wondeerd whether the mods are that much better. I've often thought of trying one but never have. So here's a chance to try one for a good reason - the free dining. After this trip we'll know whether it was worth it for us. If you never try it you'll keep wondering, every trip.

Just got back from ASMO. The buses were a mess with frequent standing on a full bus. I know from experience the buses at a mod are better so that alone justifies it for me. I was waiting in the hot sun and drizzling rain, uncovered at the bus stops at ASMO. How cheap can Disney get?

The food courts are also markedly better. You go from very few selections to something a lot more manageable when you go from value to Mod.

Front desk check in and concierge is a hundred times better. I stood in a 50 minute line to check in at ASMO on Monday. FIFTY MINUTES. I had to stand in the concierge line repeatedly to get the same problems addressed. The CM's at the Values are understaffed and overwhelmed so it's not their fault. They are being asked to do too much for too many people with out the appropriate resources.

Oh and one more thing. I was snarled at by my housekeeper. All I did was ask a question about my room. :scared:

Stay away from the values if you can.

Ive noticed that the staff definitely changes between value, moderate, and deluxe. I love the personal attention to detail and care that guests are given at the deluxe hotels. It isnt as good at the mods as it is in the deluxe, you get what you pay for. That is the biggest difference for me...the staff. We stayed at ASMO last sept. our stay was good. Staff was good, but didn't go out of the way to do special things for the guests...except the dining room attendant that went in the back to get my DD a chocolate cake that was not stocked on the shelves. It just seems like the staff at the values are just drawing a paycheck and they don't LovE their job. Not to say they don't do their jobs well, they just aren't passionate about hotel/restaurant management. busses were definitely less desirable, we found ourselves waiting more than we ever did at a moderate or deluxe.

I would totally stay at a deluxe every time, just because of the above-and-beyond attitude of the staff if my budget would allow it,
