Is a fisheye adapter worth it?

I don't want to drop the cash on a real fisheye lens yet, so I was looking at adapters on ebay.

[I can't post a link yet. If you want to see what I am looking at you can search .40x fisheye lens adapter for Nikon D90]

Is this worth $45 to play with or will I be constantly disappointed? It will fit my 28mm, 50mm and the 70-300mm.

Thanks.

p.s. After reading through a few pages on this board I am no longer considering lightening my camera bag for my trip. :) Good thing we have a big stroller to carry things.

In my opinion no, the screw on adapters are not worth it. Not even if they're free.

The Samyang fisheye (sold under different brands like Rokinon, Vivtar, Bower) is an awesome lens and can be found for under $300. It's all manual but it's also a fraction of the price of other fisheye lenses. It's sharp and has great contrast.

Another option for an inexpensive fisheye is a Lensbaby with the fisheye optic. The price there would depend on which Lensbaby you chose. And also it's not quite the same as using a regular fisheye since you have all the characteristics of the Lensbaby to factor in.

You'll only be disappointed if you care about the quality of your photos.
