Hi,
Next year we are saving our points and would like to bring my husband's parents with us.
So in addition to myself, dh, dd 14, ds 7, and ds 3 we will also have my dmil and dfil.
I am wondering if we should really see if we could get a Grand Villa but compared to the 2 bedroom it is a lot more points as well I will be banking borrowing etc. for the Grand Villa.
My question being is a 2 bdrm dedicated or (not) at any of the resorts big enough?
I know my inlaws really like their privacy so that is why I like the Grand Villas they do look rather spacious..... I go back and forth and seem to be confusing myself further, so any comments would be really appreciated!
Thanks so much.
Kristin

As long as you get along fairly well with the inlaws I say yes.

give them the King Bed , you and hubby in the queen bed and then daughter gets a pull-out and two sons get the other pull-out.

Means no romantic evenings but it does get you a cheaper point vacation.

Our family goes with 5-8 people and we find a 2 bedroom just fine. We go to disney to share time together , and thats what we do.

Well one way to look at it (I agree with Boston)
2 people in the king(2A)
2nd brdm your 2 sons and 2A
Daughter on the p/o sofa

Sounds good to me,
other option I would consider is a stuido and a 1 brdm at OKW.

We've done a 2BR 8 people before and are doing it in a few weeks with 9 (which included 2 under 2 yr's olds...before the flames come ;) ) The group is usually me, DH, DS-6, DD-2, DM, DF, DSis, DBil & now their DS who is 8 months.

We haven't had any big problems yet. Since they are all getting a "free" vacation, they don't complain :D

The only advice I can offer is to make sure to plan some alone time from the other group. One day during the week, we usually plan a few hours seperately for each "family" to do what they want.

Thanks everyone!
And you are right I have spoken to DH and while I love my inlaws dearly I believe that we will definitely need some separate time,
I was also toying with a 2 bdrm as well as a studio.
Kristin :thumbsup2

We're a family of 5 and shared a 2 b/r with my parents prior to a family cruise. We normally book just a 1 b/r for our family, so we kept the our usual configuration and put my parents in the lock-off studio of the 2 b/r. This worked great---they had their own mini-kitchen and privacy, and could visit us when they wanted. HTH

I was going to suggest the same thing. Get the inlaws a studio and request that it be close. Then they have their own space, they can sleep later if they like, get up earlier if they like. Make their coffee as they like in the AM.

Kristin...I would strongly advise staying at OKW if you go the 2BR route. With your group, I think the larger accommodations would be a large plus! :)

If you do a 2 bedroom at OKW, you and the boys could do the 2 queen beds in the second bedroom, and your DD could have the big living room as her bedroom. She will like having such a large space too, and the in laws will feel like they have a seperate space in the big master suite.

The funniest thing is I never even considered OKW, are the rooms a lot larger?
Thanks Kristin

Oh, yeah. Much larger.

Definitely consider OKW - I would put the inlaws in the studio section of a 2 BR- the DD on the pull out in the LR and the 7 yo on the love seat or on a bed made out of the cushions from the couch. Put a small air mattress in the MBR for the 3 yo. Ask for a lock off so the inlaws can have their own balcony and kitchenette if you think that would be important. You would need to bring some extra sheets etc. but it does work well. We just did it last month with a twin air mattress next to the bed in the MB for part of the time and had plenty of room. The kids think the air mattress is a treat so we had no problems but only you can tell if this would work for your family. We packed the air bed, sheets and a couple of lightweight fleece blankets in one suitcase and it was great. We had 8 in the unit but needed to do this because of the mix of people. We also requested a 2 BR in a building number greater than 30 so there was the entry to the bathroom through the laundry room for the person sleeping in the LR. Good luck with your plans and hope you have a great trip.

I agree with what others have said - OKW in a 2 BR is definitely doable. We had a dedicated 2 BR at OKW a couple of weeks ago and it is a lot larger than SSR. Both trips we had me, DH, DS, DD, DS (5 months old during the trip at SSR), dfil, and dmil. Funny thing is, this trip to OKW DH, me and the 3 kids ended up sleeping in the master BR while dfil and dfmil got a room with 2 beds to themselves! DH, DS (8), DD (5) and I slept in the king size bed while ds (2) slept in the pack-n-play (it was a little short, but he was too tired to care! :) ). There's a lot of room to spread out at OKW. The living area and the deck alone are enough reason to have me going back!

Awhile back I did a comparison of an OKW 1-B/R to a BWV 1-B/R.

The photo is fairly correct to scale. I didn't do a 2-B/R but the difference would be even more pronounced.

The diagrams have been scaled to the square footage as published by DVC for the units. The furniture doesn't look the same because the original templates were the same size so used similar sized furniture, but when reducing to compare them side by side, the furniture looks smaller.

ESPECIALLY if you are thinking about a Grand Villa, OKW is the ONLY way to go (IMHO:)) We stayed in one last year and it was glorious. But I also could see with your scenario using a 2 BR (or even a 1 BR if your kids are ok with sleeping on air mattresses, etc.) and then booking a studio for the in-laws. I'm a cheapskate when it comes to using my points but I always have great DVC vacations!

Thanks Everyone!
Wow, I cannot believe the difference between Okw and BWV.
Now I just have to research OKW because frankly I never even gave it a thought!
Thanks again ,
