Is 7 Days Enough to Make a First Timer Fall in Love??--Aug'11 TR-- FINAL UPDATE 8/26

Wednesday, August 24 - Part 3

So what should we do after one crazy spinning ride? How about another spinning ride? :thumbsup2

Back in Tomorrowland, Astro Orbiter had a 10 minute wait and it was something I really wanted to do on this trip since I had never done it before and had read on here that it has a really great view from the top.

IMG_4432.jpg

After waiting on line for about 5 minutes, so that now there were only a couple of people ahead of us before getting into the elevator, BF noticed Stitch* was very nearby with a very short line. Oh my gosh! He got so excited! He wanted to get off line right away to go meet Stitch. Who was this person standing next to me!? And who was I to argue with such enthusiasm? So we hurried over to Stitch, leaving our almost-next-in-line-with-no-one-standing-behind-us position on Astro Orbiter behind, only to find that the line for Stitch was closed as he would be leaving soon. BF was surprisingly disappointed. I was just surprised that he was so disappointed. We went back to Astro Orbiter to find that about 20 people had now gotten on line since we left! :headache: We got on the back of the line, which was now longer than it had been to begin with. Sigh. I didn't mind too much though. It was worth the extra wait to witness my BF getting that excited over meeting a character!

*Note to Reader: Stitch is the "something blue" that is referred to in this chapter title. I thought I should clarify that.

About ten minutes later we were getting into the elevator. And I had no idea what would greet me when the doors reopened. I was so excited for something new!

IMG_4455.jpg

Please note BF's shirt. It will be important later...

This sign made me laugh.
IMG_4437.jpg

Well, who would have thought that these rockets were not made for two adults to ride together? Hmm.... :confused3
IMG_4454.jpg

It was super squishy in there. It was rather difficult to squeeze both of our bodies into that rather teeny rocket but we had a great time doing it. We were both hysterical laughing as we tried to make all four of our legs fit (not to mention all four of our cheeks)! The ride also moved much faster than I expected it to and we really felt those centrifugal forces. As uncomfortable as it was, it was a ton of fun to do once. And the views were pretty neat.

You can see some of the construction going on in Fantasyland.

IMG_4453.jpg

After we took the elevator back down to earth, we grabbed FP for Buzz Lightyear. It was currently 10:55 and the return time was 11:35, only 40 minutes away. Not bad at all.

After this, BF noticed that Stitch's Great Escape only had a 10 minute wait. Now, I had already told him that this was something we could skip. Alien Encounter (which had been there before it was changed into the Stitch version) officially scared the pants off me when I was younger. Although the current version is less scary (or maybe I'm just older, or a combination of both) it's still uncomfortable and not-so-fun in my opinion. So anyway, I had told BF that I felt we could skip this but if he really wanted to experience it, I would suck it up. He decided he wanted to try it. I honestly think that if we hadn't missed meeting Stitch by this much that he wouldn't have been so desirous of doing this attraction. But alas, BF wanted his fill of Stitch so I would make sure he got it ;)
IMG_4456.jpg

For anyone who has never experienced Stitch's Great Escape before, here's some advice: Don't. Just kidding! Kind of! But seriously, if you are going to do this, sit up very straight when the shoulder bar things start moving down. The announcement lets you know that the bars will stop automatically when they touch your shoulders but this isn't 100% accurate. I'd say it's more like 95% accurate. I always feel like once the bars touch my shoulders they try to keep going just a little bit further down to the point where it's very uncomfortable/on the verge of hurting, then stop. So my advice is to sit up very straight and tall so that the bars don't push you down into an uncomfortable position.

So after this was over BF agreed with me that we could have skipped it. He thought it was boring.

At this point Monster's Inc. Laugh Floor had a 20 minute wait time posted so we decided to do that. After waiting for about 5 minutes on line in the first area, we were able to see the next preshow. There were TV screens encouraging guests to text in their jokes so that they may be used in the show. When BF saw that he told me a cute joke about a seagull so I told him to text it in but of course, he said no.

IMG_4457.jpg

The actual show was very funny. I noticed that a few jokes were recycled from when I saw the show in February but most things were different because they depend so much on audience participation. I remembered from February how they kept focusing the camera on one guy throughout the whole show and making recurring jokes about him and I was really hoping that guy would be BF but it wasn't. However, he did still get to be part of the show!

First of all, when they started reading some of the jokes the audience had texted in, I heard the same joke that BF told me while we were waiting on line: What do you get when a sea gull flies over the bay? A bay-gull! :rotfl: I started to say to BF, "Hey! That was your joke!" But before I could finish, they announced that the joke had come from Bobby from NJ. And then I realized...that was MY Bobby from NJ! He had texted the joke in while I wasn't paying attention. BF was getting into the magic! :woohoo:

Then, during the part of the show where they do geography jokes, they talked to the man sitting next to BF who was wearing a NY shirt. When he said he was from NY the monsters starting saying all the things they knew about NY (that were all wrong, and very funny). Then they finished by saying that NY was next to Ireland and the camera moved over a few inches to show BF, wearing his Ireland shirt, sitting next to the guy from New York, wearing his NY shirt. It was *so* funny and the whole audience was hysterical. And BF totally loved the joke and the attention. It was such a great time. BF definitely enjoyed the show more than I thought he would.

After the show we were getting hungry so we decided to venture over to Adventureland. On our way over we stopped for a few Photopass Pictures with a photographer who was a lot of fun. When I asked him to take our picture he said, "Sure!" then held his camera up in my face. I made a cheesy smile, not expecting him to actually take a picture. Well, he did. Here it is in its original form, not zoomed or cropped or anything. He was actually this close to my face!

Then, to be fair, he had to take a picture of BF by himself too.
Photo0068FourBySix.jpg

I had to include this picture too because I think the caption makes it even more hilarious than it already is.

Then we got this photo from a different photographer as we crossed the hub.

Up Next: Lunch at Tortuga Tavern

DH and I went on the Astro Jets (not sure if it's jets or orbiter here) but it is a TIGHT fit! We were laughing the entire time and it went surprisingly fast!

:rotfl2: I started laughing on the picture of BF with "Where dreams come true". I also like how you're in the picture laughing, it's cute and captures a good moment. :thumbsup2

awesome update!
That is so cute how BF got all excited about Stitch:banana: And to think he texted in a joke, wow! BF was definitely feeling "magical" at this point:laughing:

Also...I love that photo with you holding the balloons. That's the best "magic" photo I've ever seen. I want to do one of those!

Awesome MK updates! I have never done Astro Orbiter either! It's on my to-do list though. :) I'm so glad BF is starting to show how much fun he's having.

I would love to take that "Where Dreams Come True" picture and make it BF's facebook profile picture without him knowing but I think he'd kill me! :rotfl2: Or worse, refuse to visit WDW again with me! :scared1:

We had a really great photographer taking those pictures. It's funny though, there was another picture on the photopass account with our hands up but the balloons hadn't been photoshopped in! I deleted it before making the CD but in hindsight I wish I hadn't because it was a really funny looking picture!

Awesome MK updates! I have never done Astro Orbiter either! It's on my to-do list though. :) I'm so glad BF is starting to show how much fun he's having.

I'm glad I tried it at least once. It was fun and the views were neat. This update was particularly fun to write because I was remembering how much fun BF was having. In fact, while I was writing it I texted him at work to say "Remember when you made us get off line to meet Stitch and then we didn't even get to meet him?" and his reply was "Ugh yeah. So heartbreaking" :rotfl:

I am sooo excited for that Winnie the Pooh queue... it just looks like so much fun you know for the kids ;). I'm sure all three of us will be going down the kids line:laughing:

That astro orbiter sign should say 2 - 3 small earthlings OR 1 adult earthling, we had the same problem!

I'm hoping that at the end of this TR you say your BF has been asking when are you going back, lol he was completely converted, it doesn't matter what he says those pictures say it all.

You will have a great time playing in the Winnie the Pooh queue. The difference between you and BF is that you will be playing with your son. BF would have been playing by himself :lmao:

We actually had a conversation on our next day in Epcot where we discussed a future trip. But unfortunately it most likely won't be for quite some time... :sad1:

Hi Readers! (If I have any left...I'm not so sure at this point :sad1:)

Sorry for taking such long breaks in between updates. I have been so busy lately and it usually takes me a while (about an hour and a half minimum) to write an update and I like starting and finishing in one sitting. The good news is that I have off from work next week and I'm looking forward to writing a few more updates so please stick around :goodvibes

I'm still here! :wave2: and will be waiting for your updates next week! Merry Christmas!

Saw the title to your TR and wanted to say that it only took me 3 days to fall into Disney love back in 2003.:dance3:

Wednesday, August 24 – Part 4

After taking a bunch of photopass pictures we crossed through the hub to enter:
IMG_4462.jpg

We were hungry and ready for lunch so we headed to Tortuga Tavern.
IMG_4464.jpg

BF ordered a taco salad which he thought was “alright.” He didn’t like the shell, he said it was too flaky. I didn’t try it but it looked like a typical taco salad shell to me.
IMG_4467.jpg

I got the nachos which I had in February and really liked (for fast food).
IMG_4466.jpg

Chocolate cake was the option for dessert and I don’t remember if we even took it or ate it because I have no picture (in my defense I already have 4 or 5 pictures of the same cake!) and all I wrote down in my notebook was “tired of chocolate cake.”

We didn’t spend much time in Adventureland after lunch as we decided to go back to Tomorrowland yet again to experience the Carousel of Progress. On our way across the hub we ran into a celebration!
IMG_4469.jpg

BF was actually dancing and having a great time but I didn’t capture it on film. Eventually we were able to cross and made our way to this classic:
IMG_4474.jpg

BF knows that this was Walt Disney’s creation from the 1964 World’s Fair so it’s almost 50 years old. Even so, he still called it “corny.” But he also said it was more entertaining than he thought it would be and agreed with me that it was relaxing and a very clever creation.

I found a Hidden Mickey that I was very excited about. I’m terrible at finding them so it’s very rare that I do. BF thought the concept of hidden mickeys was pretty neat and he looked for them occasionally. Sidenote: We saw the new Muppet Movie a few weeks ago and there is a hidden mickey at the end of the movie (I won’t give it away) but we both saw it and looked at each other at the same time and BF was the first one to say “I saw the Mickey!” Oh my gosh, words can’t describe how happy that made me. It’s proof that he took home a little bit of Disney magic from our trip :wizard:

So anyway, here’s a picture of the Mickey on the CoP. See it?
IMG_4479.jpg

And here’s another:
IMG_4481.jpg

Next we used our FP for Buzz Lightyear.
IMG_4473.jpg

I took that picture before we rode CoP so it’s actually a little bit later than what the Fastpass Return Clock says. I really thought I was going to beat BF this time and I was winning pretty much the whole way until the very last scene. Then somehow BF managed to come back and beat me. Don’t worry, he only rubbed it in my face for the next 5 minutes or so. And once again, I was just happy he was having so much fun.
IMG_4485.jpg

I know it's kind of hard to see my face, but I just want to put it out there that I was posing for this picture and do not usually look this ferocious during shooting games.
IMG_4487.jpg

When we exited Buzz we saw Chip & Dale were out and about and BF led the way as we hurried to get on line. There were only a few people in front of us and one of them was a little girl who was just SO excited. She couldn’t stand still she just kept gushing over them and jumping up and down and saying how excited and happy she was. It was so flipping adorable. After just a few minutes it was our turn to finally meet a character on this trip.
Photo0089FourBySix.jpg

Photo0092FourBySix.jpg

Just look at BF’s face in the next two pictures! Priceless!
Photo0097FourBySix.jpg

Photo0100FourBySix.jpg

We used our Space Mountain FP next and BF and I were technically in separate cars. I was the last seat of the first car and he was the first seat of the second. But that allowed me to take this picture:
IMG_4491.jpg

I tried to convince BF to get a Space Mountain tee shirt from the gift shop since it was his favorite ride at MK but he refused. I begged him to at least hold it up for a picture and this is what he gave me:
IMG_4493.jpg

At this point we were hot and tired and ready for a break so we decided to leave the park. We had done everything at the park that we wanted to do…although I honestly would have loved to hit Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, Philharmagic and Pirates of the Caribbean [at least] one more time on the trip. But we were tired and it wasn’t worth dragging BF around. Rather than go back to our own hotel to relax, we decided to visit someplace new to both of us.

Here are some pictures we took on our way out:

Up Next: A visit to someplace Grand...

Oh my...the COP and BF didn't fall asleep? yay! I thought it was very well done but definitely easy to slip a nap in during it. Ok, I see the Mickey in the one photo with the Christmas tree but the other one...is it in the painting with the flowers? not sure I see it.

Love the Chip and Dale photos!!

Can't wait to hear about what I think is the Grand Floridian!

Hahaha no he didn't fall asleep! But I bet if we had ridden it again he would have! :lmao: I think he was genuinely interested seeing it...even if it's just once. CoP is something I like to do once on each trip. I'm sure if we go back, he'll be fine with passing on it. And the Mickey is in the painting...

And I love the Chip and Dale photos too! :goodvibes I really want to log into BF's facebook and change his main picture to the one where he's hugging Dale with that goofy smile on his face but I think he'd kill me! :rotfl:

Whee...finally finished ;) I'm glad y'all had a great trip. Thanks for all the photos and report.

Thanks! So glad to have you along :goodvibes

Wednesday, August 24 - Part 5

As we left the MK we were ready to take a break and cool off but decided we wanted to do that at a hotel other than ours. So we chose to go somewhere new to both of us. We hopped on the monorail and I was so excited to finally ride it! We had tried twice on our first day/night but it was closed due to a lightning strike.
IMG_4504.jpg

It was pretty empty:

IMG_4521.jpg

And here we are:
IMG_4522.jpg

This was my first-ever visit to the Grand Floridian and I really wanted to explore. BF walked around with me for a little bit but once we got down into the lobby and sat on a couch...there was no getting him up. So the rest of this post is going to be pictures that I took around the hotel and I think they'll speak for themselves. It's just a beautiful place and I wanted to share the photos for anyone who is interested.

Sigh...If I was going to really treat myself to one thing on this trip, it would have been one of the D&B bags. I stared at this shelf for quite a while but in the end decided it wasn't in my budget right now.

Here's a closer look:

He was totally out cold! I checked back several times and he was still in the same spot every time. Not that I can blame him though... :rotfl2:

That is awesome:lmao:He is totally sacked out on that couch!
I bet the heat wore you guys out!

Wednesday, August 24 - Part 6

I continued wandering around the Grand Floridian, snapping pictures:

At this point I noticed the sky was starting to look a little dark...

At this point I rejoined BF in the lobby to relax on the couch for a bit. A singer and a pianist began performing and it was really nice to just listen to and rest for a bit. It was very enjoyable.

A few more pictures from the couch:

As comfortable as we were, at 3:45 we decided it was time to leave and head to Downtown Disney. We were seeing La Nouba at 6pm but in my confirmation email it said tickets could be picked up until 1 hour prior to the show so we definitely did not want to be late. We said goodbye to the GF and walked to the bus stop. It was raining at this point so it was really nice that we were covered by the overhang all the way to the bus stop and even while we were waiting for the bus. At POP we would have been getting wet while waiting for the bus since the area where the actual lines for the buses are is not covered.
IMG_4597.jpg

IMG_4600.jpg

We only had to wait a few minutes for our bus and then we were on our way!

Up Next: An evening at Downtown Disney

It's amazing how spotless everything is at the GF! WEll, really all of WDW is like that I suppose. You can really tell in your photos just how clean they keep things!

Is that an older lady hanging down there by your BF? She was probably dying for him to get up so she could sack out on the couch. Cant wait to hear the next segment!
