I just turned 42 and despite my new hip I will say that 41 is NOT old. My Aunt passed away at 70 a couple of years ago and we were all in shock, I really don't think of 70 as being old either. Not like it used to be.

eta: I was responding only to your original question. Having read your clarification, I still stick with my answer that 40 is old. But is that a bad thing? That just means it's time to stop wasting time and get your life going! Rollerblade, dye your hair pink, have a mudfight in your front yard. I know women in their 40s, 50, 60s who are sexy and full of energy and life, who make me look like an old fuddy-duddy.

I don't consider 41 'old'. Of course, I thought 30 was old when I was 18 . It's amazing that I keep pushing back what I consider 'old' as I get older .

Rollerblade away!! It irritates me to no end to hear my Mom (who's 53) say things like "I just can't push myself at the gym that hard cause I'm old" or "I can't do ________ cause I'm old". In that sense, age is just a number definitely. Never let age slow you down from experiencing all that life has to offer! Who really cares what other people think?! At the end of your life you won't be thinking "I really hope everyone thought I was 'normal' and stayed inside my appropriate age group limitations". Hopefully you'll be thinking of that amazing sunset you saw once when you were rollerblading or the peacefulness you found enjoying a moonlight kayak tour or how much you laughed/how much fun you had learning a new hobby.

By the way I've been considering botox and I'm not even 30!!

When I was 18...41 was ancient! Now that I'm 40, it's not so bad. I'm the mother of a 2 year old, so I can't complain. AND...I just received notice that I'm receiving my AA degree! All requirements were met.

I'm 40 - will be 41 in a few months.

When you consider how long we've been on the planet and how much has happened and how much the world has changed - yes, we're old. When I look at the way the world was the year I was born, I think, "WOW - I've been on the planet a long time."

But when you consider how much time we have left in the world (hopefully) and what we have left to do, life up until 40 has seemed like a dress rehersal. I was just thinking today about how I used to dread growing older but now that I am older, I enjoy life so much more. I don't feel that excitement and "unlimited potential" about life that I used to, but I feel happy. And secure. And like I might finally have a good idea about what I want to be and what I want to do.

So another vote for "yes and no."
