Is $249 a good price for a Wii game system?

That is the going price for the Wii - doubt that it will come down in price for a while - we have one and it's a lot of fun!

That's the going price... you can wait awhile longer and see if they lower the price, but who knows if they will or not.

That's the regular retail price and it is totally worth the money. :thumbsup2.

I was looking at these yesterday. At ToysRUs, Walmart, and Sams they are all $249. They were out of them at Sams, but an employee told me that they have more stuff in theirs...what "more stuff" means, I don't know. :confused3

Some of the stores carry packages that contain extra games and controllers, but they are most definitely NOT $249.

in our area the packages at the warehouses run around $650 for Wii system and a few extra games (games are usually around $50 each if bought individually.

Better to pay the $249 for system which comes with the sports package (5 games I think, uumm, bowling, tennis, boxing, help me here!) and then add on games individually as you want them. My DS15 has several games now but he always goes in and plays them in store first to decide. also all the game cube games work on Wii as well. You'll want an original type controller for those tho.

Store employee may have been talking about the numchucks or other controllers. They run around $20 a piece. and then the points cards you buy to purchase old and online games?? lots of stuff to spend money on once the $250 system is yours!

I would not expect price to come down as manufacturer is limiting release of system to create another Christmas shopping hype. Maybe after the holiday?

It is the only game system I have ever played with altho my kids have several! It is fun!

No way. The system continues to sell out very quickly. I doubt we'll see any type of price drop for at least a year, probably more like 2 or even longer.

Nintendo tends to keep the price the same for it's systems for a long while after release, unlike it's competitors, since the initial price of the Wii is still lower than the others, don't look for any drops anytime soon.

Where did you hear that they are limiting numbers? Because they are not!!! Nintendo has been at full production of the system since the beginning of the year and are not slowing down at all for the holidays. They were hoping to catch up with demand before the holidays by producing as many units as they could, but the system continues to sell well above everyone's expectations!

I have actually seen a couple of Wiis on the shelves in the last few weeks...which was surprising to me because I was one of the parents up at 3am trying to get one for my kids last Christmas.

But the price is NOT going to go down anytime soon. There are MANY MANY people who still haven't gotten one that wanted one LAST Christmas and they might be lucky to get one THIS Christmas. I have a feeling it will be at LEAST a year before the prices go down, but more likely two.

I think it really depends on where you live if you can find them. I bought one for DF's birthday and they were in stock at all the stores. On a Saturday afternoon. They had about 9 at the Target and another man and I were buying them at the same time. The only thing I couldn't find, was the nunchuck. And the WiiPlay game with the extra Wii remote - well I found it at another Target (out of the 3 in town here in Bakersfield) but it was the one like, 8 miles away, so I said forget it, I can order it off Amazon!
But, DF's best friend in New Jersey, cannot find one for the life of him. And down in LA I know a store was retailing the system only for $450!!!!!!! They said they don't get them from the manufacturer as a regular sales store so that's why they charge so much. I had friends nearer to the LA area stalking stores on shipment/advertisement days but they got their Wiis. But me, well, I walked into the store a few days before DF's birthday, haha.

Anyway, I am so not a video game person. I'm terrible at them. DF got me a DS for my birthday because I wanted to play Brain Age (and I love it, he got me Tetris too, which I also love, haha). But the Wii is totally fun!!! I love playing tennis and baseball and bowling. I also got him Mario Party which he loves but is not my cup of tea. I'm excited for Wii Fit next year, where you can snowboard and do yoga and stuff!!!!! Totaly coolest system ever, and well worth the initial investment IMHO.

Oh, and DF has a gamecube and PS2 here too. He hasn't touched them in the 6 months we've lived here. But he's really excited to download old NES and N64 games for his Wii!!

Yes, $249 is the standard retail price for the Wii console. I just bought one at Target (for Christmas). I also bought Wii Play, which has more games and a controller ($49.99); an extra nunchuck ($19.99); and Wii Carnival Games ($49.99) which should be everything we need to get started on Christmas morning. If you don't have wireless internet set up at your home, you may need a cable also, but we have WiFi.

I also pre-ordered Mario Galaxy ($49.99) and Guitar Hero III ($89.99) from Amazon with free shipping.

For $500, my DH and DS will be entertained for weeks. :)

One of the Targets near me in NJ has had them every time I've been there the past 2 weeks (which, sadly, has been often). They are getting them several times a week, and pretty much have them all the time (they say). I realize your friend could be 2-3 hours from my Target, but just wanted to let you know that they are in stores here. :)

Ethan's mom--That is almost exactly what we got with our first purchase. No extra nunchuck though. Be careful--that carnival game is addicting for mom's too. Last night I found myself bummed that we are going out of town for hte weekend and I won't be able to play! (We only get it out on Saturdays.) It is a sickness I tell you!

Some of the stores carry packages that contain extra games and controllers, but they are most definitely NOT $249.

You are right! I went on line to Sam's site today, and they had a bundle with some extra controls and it was $403!! The display at the store had those big carboard cards to take to the cashier and they said $249, but a sign said they were out. I didn't read the big card to see what it included, since they didn't have any. I will definitely look it over again the next time I am in there...has anyone bought one from Sam's?

They also had a package of a nu chuk(sp), a remote, and the other controller for $75. I bought it, was that a good deal..I have two kids, I need two of each control, don't I?

I'm not really expecting the price to go down, but hoping that promotions will come out...ToysRUs did a promotion last year with Nintnendo DS, with an accesory pack. I could always buy one now when I see it and take it back if I find a better deal before Christmas.

According to the electronics folks at Target, the prices on the basic console, the Wii Play, and controllers are set by Nintendo and you aren't likely to find a discount any time soon. When I did my research, all of the Wii bundles cost at least as much as the total of the items purchased individually (and sometimes more).

I have seen some difference in prices on Wii games. Target had Carnival Games for $39.99, Walmart.com listed it for $39.84, and I've seen other sites that quoted $49.99.

I would definitely get a console now and then you could return it if you find a better deal. When I got mine earlier this week, the Nintendo rep was still stocking them and I mentioned that I was thinking of getting one. He told me, "You'd better get one now because they'll be impossible to get as Christmas gets closer." Nintendo doesn't expect to have market saturation (Wiis sitting on shelves for longer than a day or two) till Easter of next year.
