I have a reservation for 2/6-2/12. Free dining just came out today and I called to see why my time is blacked out and they say it is a VERY busy time. We go the same week every year it's not very busy. How frustrating. Now I have to figure all of my stuff out to switch weeks. UGH.:headache:

That's not a busy time. It's Value Season. No idea why it's blacked out, but it's not because it will be crowded.

We have been there around that time before. At the value resorts, they had/have a cheerleading competition that stays there. We quit going that time of year b/c they took over all of the value resorts. It was getting really crowded and loud. The last time we went that time, we actually asked the front desk when they were leaving. They laughed b/c they understood completely.

Adding: I just looked and they moved the competition to these dates: National High School Cheerleading Championship
February 12 - 14, 2010

Wonder why they would block out the earlier dates?

I was wondering the same thing. I'd like to leave on 2/9, but free dining is blacked out until the 10th, then starts again on the 11th - which is odd because all the public schools in my area are off on the 11th and 14th, making for a long President's "weekend."

The only reason I can think of is the Superbowl is February 7th...

The CM swore it was busy due to 'Valentine's Day'. That's not til the next week! I wasted 30 minutes on the phone. We did a value last year and the dance teams were such a pain we wont again even though my son has more fun at Value. We are staying at POR this time. Sigh.

Do the cheer competitors usually stay the whole week?? We are at CSR and I'm hoping that won't be affected. But, what impact does it have on the parks? I've never been in February.

I think the teams stick to value. At least that's what I'm hoping. We got every February and everything is great. Cooler weather and smaller crowds! This past February there were like 10 billion Brazilian teens there and let me tell ya, they didnt have any manners! They'd walk shoulder to shoulder through the lobby and food court.

They don't affect the parks, just the value resorts. They will be there Feb 12-14. I was told by a cast member at the Tower of Terror that they do get busier around Valentine's day and Presidents Day. I also believe the rates go up then also. The first part of February is pretty slow.

I changed it to the week after and got the free dining. The dining was $900 off but we had to pay a little extra for being in regular season instead of value.:yay:

We were at WDW this Feb 5-11, and we couldn't get a standard room at WL or Woods even with an AP discount. While it wasn't a busy time, there were quite a few more people in the parks than I would have thought. It was fairly cold as well so my guess is they weren't the locals. There were a few groups from Brazil there, but not enogh to cause all the people to be there.
