I'm reading some iffy things on the food there. Is this worth going to (we're on the dining plan)? We did CRT last trip and was hoping to try something different. We are doing a lot of character meals (1900 Park Fare breakfast, Princesses at Norway, CP, Chef Mickey's)but also CA Grill and Teppan Edo. My kids (will be ages 6, 4, and 2 when we go) are adventurous in their eating so if you have any other suggestions for a place that would be different, yet really fun for them, please let me know. For example, we did Marrakesh last time and the kids LOVED it.

I thought it was good the past couple of times we've been there, but to me it's pretty much the same as Chef Mickey's. My favorite buffet is the Cape May clam bake at the beach club, but if you don't like clams and seafood you might want to skip it.

I think it is very good. Where at CM the buffet is the same on oth side, at 1900 the foods are different on each side.

And be sure to try the Strawberry Soup!

We have an ADR for our first night there at 1900 Park Fare. So many mixed reviews. Guess we will have to judge for ourselves, and take a chance.

I was just there on 12-15 and not on the dining plan. It was very expensive and the food was horrible. I found it to be just a bunch of different salads, a few starches from different countries and some small desserts which probably were the best things. The prime rib was raw and they were frying it for some people. I was in line with so many people that were going to complain about the food. Everyone was unhappy. It was loud, unorganized and there was nothing to eat. The old buffet at 1900 was wonderful but this one is just a bunch of stuff.

p.s. they put the wonderful strawberry soup in line with the salad dressings, same small container and many people missed it.

Sorry to say never again unless they go back to the way it was. We really enjoyed Ohana, telling the waitress not to rush us and let us enjoy the appetizers before the meats. We also enjoyed Wispering Canyon which was new to us this year.

We were there last June (before the refurb.) and it was FANTASTIC! I have boys, and they even loved it. The character interaction is wonderful - Cinderella even gave DS a kiss :lovestruc .

The food was really, really good. There is a nice variety. I found it to be very different from the other buffets we did that week. AND the strawberry soup is very good.

I was planning to go back again this year, but DS6 is refusing to eat with any princess. :sad1:

We were there for dinner in December. The food was average --- we just enjoyed the food at other places much more. The thing that made this place was Lady Tremaine and the Step-sisters. They are hilarious and really interact with teh crowd. Cinderella and Charming -- are nice and my DD was in awe of course. My kids (DS's 13 & 10 & DD4) love to eat --- and will eat nearly anything. (The oldest will eat anything that doesn't bite back -- thankfully we've never actually tested that theory) They loved, loved the characters --- but said if you are really wanting interesting food go somewhere else. This was their least favorite meal in terms of food in the entire 2 weeks we were there. It wasn't horrible -- just ordinary. They voted Boma the best buffet for just eating.

But all three agreed that the characters were worth the trip --- so it depends on what you are looking for.

Here are a couple of photo's -- Anastasia was really hamming it up with my son --- although she was disappointed that they couldn't get married since he wasn't rich --- oh and he is only 13 too!

Lady Tremaine asking about marriage, she thought a double marriage would be good since I have two sons.

Actually we went to see Cinderella --- but we loved Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters

Have a great trip!

We were there on December 14. Sadly, I totally have to agree with you about the food. This meal and Chef Mickey's were definitely the worst of our trip. However, our kids happily scarfed down pizza and mac n cheese and they were totally content (maybe DH and I should have eaten off the kids buffet).

That said, the character interaction with Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters was OUTSTANDING. I don't remember ever laughing so much during a meal. I think all the laughing made us forget about the so so food. While Cinderella was beautiful and Prince Charming, was, well, "very" charming, the stepsisters stole the show. The look on our DD's face was priceless -- all in all well worth the $130 price tag attached (DH thinks otherwise). Food will be digested and eliminated -- the look on our little princesses face will live forever.

PS. DD is now a fan of the stepsisters -- she kept commenting -- "they're not mean at all, they're nice"

We had the same Anastacia and Step-mother for our dinner in October and it was FANTASTIC! Please check out my trip report on my blog for the details - but the characters were great.

The food was good too - everyone felt like they had a great meal.

We've had dinner there a 1/2 dozen times in the past year...it has been great every time!! DD13 & DS9 both really enjoy it. Good food, great characters, great atmosphere.

Kimmikayb and I went on November 30th. We loved it, and we thought the food was wonderful. We were one of the last tables seated for the evening, so as buffets go that usually a bad thing. All the food was fresh and the items were being refreshed on the buffet even though there we scant customers left.

We thought the selection was great and I think its much better then Chef Mickey's. Honestly the best dinner buffet I've ever been to, and yes, that includes Boma.

So it is either horrible or awesome - LOL!

For the food served, I really like Crystal Palace and I dislike Chef Mickey's - can you compare it to one or the other? Chef Mickey's seems "bland" to me.

More similar to Crystal Palace Dinner IMHO.:thumbsup2

Thanks so much - what varied responses!!!! It always amazes me the varied feedback on any place - just goes to show how very different everyone's taste can be. I think we will try it, I do remember prior to our last vacation seeing some pretty bad stuff about Chef Mickey's and we absolutely loved the food. I think the kids will love the characters - thanks to you all for your input.

We went in March before the rehab. Have to say it was not very good and I've heard the food has gotten worse since then. We weren't even thrilled with the character interaction. I think the new characters would be neat though.

I think it's one of those things that you totally have to judge on your own. I will say the character interaction can make or break a place. I wasn't thrilled with the food at Garden Grill but the characters were so incredible that we will be returning again in '08.

I think after this last trip we realized that if we are going to do a character buffet that we prefer breakfast. The food is better in our opinion.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Well, We ate there the same dates in Dec that others think it was terrible. We thought it was very good. We like rare Prime Rib and had no problem finding the Strawberry soup. That being said, the characters were the best they have ever been. My DGS had a ball! The danced with him, just as the above pictures show with others. We laughed so hard. It was one of our happiest meals!!!

We have ADR's for 1900 Park Fare in April. We decided this trip we would try restaurants we've never been too. I've never heard anyone not like it. I don't know if because December is such a busy month that they just can't keep up or what. But I also know everyone has different tastes. I'm the Disney Princess fan so we are going because I really don't want to do CRT since it is more expensive. DS (4) is also a huge Cinderella fan and loves the step-sisters so I'm sure he will really enjoy it too.

We're going to take our chances since we need to judge for ourselves.

If they liked Marrakesh and are trying Teppan Edo (my DS loved the Japanese restaurant when he was 8), and they're adventurous eaters, they'd probably like Boma, which would give you a chance to check out Animal Kingdom Lodge. We went at night after dark but if you're able to get to the lodge during daylight hours before supper (or for breakfast), that would be better. There's a huge variety of foods there for every taste, and the whole place smells fantastic!

Food was so-so. Very similar to CP buffett. The room was very crowded, busy, the tables were on top of each other, the calliope went off every few minutes, all of which make it VERY LOUD!!!!! The buffet was packed and it took forever to get food, and it was so crowded I almost dropped trays twice. All the characters only made it to the table once, so I think other character meals have been much better. We loved Chef Mickey's for a buffet, and LTT and GG for sit downs. Personally, having a sit down meal with kids calms the whole atmosphere down a lot. You don't have to worry about getting everyone's food or missing characters. Good luck!:thumbsup2

Wow, guess It depends on the time of year, and time of the night you go. We saw the characters twice, and had the buffet to ourselves.

I did have to wait in a long line at Boma though.
