Irritated after calling member services....

If you didn't do the survey or ask for a supervisor DVC has no idea about the guy's attitude. Maybe he shouldn't be answering phones.

But when you start the conversation off with "what is Disney going to do with the money I gave them, give away stuff to other people who can get things free, why should I have to pay when they don't" then it's not going to go well.

Firing off an e-mail to DVC that you feel the value of DVC was misrepresented to you (if that's how you feel because you mentioned that you don't feel you got accurate information out of your guide) would be more appropriate than taking it out on a phone agent.

... I will say that I am a little disappointed after finding that all of the promises given by my guide at signing my 280 points of contracts haven't been fully realized, but I don't blame everyone in DVC for that. ....

Unless you get it in writing, it's just words. Lots of guides have been known to stretch the truth to make the sale. There are lots of excellent ones out there, just like there are lots of excellent CM's at Member Services. You might want to check out what you thought you heard from your guide to make sure what they were telling you was indeed fact.

some of the exchanges here has me confuse like oranges &
apples.

however, i can understand the frustrations from promises
being broken and hidden important facts. especially things the
guides are aware of & how they can reduce the chances for owners
to book their rooms.

while i can see mr.bill 's point..."only words", we are talking
about disney & it's organization. i know we didn't give it
a second thought over the promises made to us, &
having it to be in writing never occurred to us.

while guides making up stories & taking liberties beyond normal
expectation/s is to me, false advertisement , cut & dry.
currently i am learning/utilizing the dvc processors to correct
some of our misinformation we were given. [ you are not alone
& unfort., it seems quite common]

i also been reading about the new changes regarding the ddp &
the effects on renters. i think there will be others pushing for
more changes, to reel in the line, & reduce some of the abuses.
[ i am one asking questions, & seeking responses to some
having special privileges outside the dvc rules book]

i think once one figures how the system is being manipulated then
there are all kind of actions that can be taken.

for us, we don't really get alot of the dvc references. our primary
goal is having lodging for our disney vacations, primary @ blt,
when we book 11 mos. out. [ i think it kind of funny to be
"welcome home" verbally, when there isn't any room @ the inn for
us]

i also believe, one the best way to ruin trust , is to lie. some here
have even taunted me , and made jokes, and even bragged how they
are going to ignored the rules. don't think it is being "missed", not
reporting and/or documenting. processing just happens to be a
part of my real job.

so while you are disappointed, i think you will find most owners will
offer you support. & i hope you don't give up. :flower3:

The Rivers' Rats there are at least three issues here. There is no excuse for rudeness, esp from DVC, I'm sorry that happened and I hope you report that to a supervisor at DVC. Technically what you were told is true and others have expanded on why, that it's based on what DVC has to pay contractually. Thus my opinion is that it's ALMOST never a good idea to try to cruise using points and is better, cheaper, and far less risky to rent out your points to pay for such a cruise. The higher contractual price and lack of access to specials is only part of the reasons I feel this way.

Lastly, it's been my experience over the years that it's VERY unusual for the DVC guides to make what appear to be purposefully inaccurate statements. They sometimes show their lack of experience and knowledge when it comes to exchange type options. I think it's common for potential members to not fully understand what goes on and i do not feel like a guide can insure you have the full and total picture based on a sales presentation, you have to read the paperwork, get input from members (like here) and get some experience to have a good feel for the overall system. What specific promises were actually made that you felt were inaccurate?

Most of the MS reps are friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. Not all, but most. I can usually determine within a minute or three whether the CM will be useful to me or not and if not, I terminate the conversation and simply call back to speak with someone else. It's not worth my time to try and "set them straight".

Don't get too bummed over one particular CM. As I said, most are extremely helpful.

less than a handful of times, i have too; same as when dealing with WDTC

confused re OP's 1st post though (if i interpreted it correctly) has MS become outsourced?

I was wondering that myself is MS as a division being outsourced?

I don't think MS is being outsourced. The Orlando area has a labor pool that is very ethnically diverse, plus Disney may also train some of the CMs from the International program to answer the phones. Just because someone has an accent you are unfamiliar with does not mean they are not working the phones here in the US. Many well trained and respected professionals, especially in the Medical field could "sound" like they were from an "off-shore phone bank," even in our local area, a small town of 30,000 in the middle of Texas.

Good to hear:goodvibesthere are enough economically displaced people in this country that need a job

As far as using points for a cruise sometimes the DVC rate is better than the DCL rate-- this rate is previously agreed. They seem to give you about 7.00 a point sometimes a little more but again it is based on the agreed price which can be higher or lower. It is worth to check as you only need to book one person on points even a child sometimes you get a better rate.
In myexperience the rate for the shorter cruises seems to be better than DCL and the rate for the 7 night or longer cruises seems to higher then DCL.
I have not had any rude CM'S yet.......

$7 per point is never better than the $10 per point fair market value if transfering or renting your points. In my experience, the DVC rates are almost NEVER better than DCL. I won't say NEVER EVER because there could be a small handful of times when it isn't so. But the vast majority of the time you are better off paying cash, not booking with points.

Agreed as per the per point value. But, there is also the convenience factor to consider. Is it easier to book with points over taking the time to rent/transfer them...yes. And under certain circumstances in my life, convenience wins over cash. So for those considering a cruise, it may be worth it to them as individuals to book on points.

What if you don't have the cash? Or what if you have a bunch of points you aren't going to use? Believe it or not, these aren't rare situation.

Oh, sure, you could take on a second job renting out points. And after you've done all the work, collected all the money, paid any possible taxes, then booked a reservation for cash, there's probably going to be money left over. But many of us joined DVC as a good and easy way to take great vacations. We didn't join for the small-business money making opportunities.
