Irrational fear of heights, will I have issues?

If those two men in the pic, in post # 19, just beyond the steel member, stood up straight, the rail would be half height, is all I'm trying to imply.

Point is, tall folk need to exercise caution around the rails.

Especially in seas.

And may I add especially at the deck 4 gates to boats too.
Those latches need to be tweaked/reinforced imo.

Good Luck to All

Excuse me.

Are you all discussing the pic in post #2 here in this thread?

If so, are you implying the deck 4 rails are chest high?

If so, they are not. At least not for all humans.

She implied nothing. She stated quite clearly...

The railings on deck are at least chest high to me (I'm 5'4")

no implications, just her experience and data.

And the OP is concerned about her kids. Who aren't likely 5'4".

Defensive are we?

Defending someone?

Perhaps a reread is INO. JAT

How do you know PP is a she?
Isn't that .....

Thank god.

Some post for all. Some don't.

Smooth seas to all.

Full fear of heights here. Usually stay in a verandah room. I am just fine if I stay back a few feet from the railings on the ship. When my kids were little, I asked them not to lean on or near the railings. Once you get on the ship, see the set up, you will relax a bit. Happy cruising!

The outside railings don't bother me at all; I can look over the railing on the top deck into the ocean all day long and not feel a thing. It's walking around the upper floors of the atrium (where you're overlooking the lobby/atrium) that make me feel uneasy and REALLY queasy.

I hadn't even thought about the atrium:faint:!!! lol.

You guys have given me some good information, I appreciate the photos too, now I only "need" to freak out about my 6'4" husband looking over the railings. I am tentitivly feeling better, I trust you guys so I expect/hope my issues don't mess up fun for my people. :disrocks:

If it makes you feel any better, your fear is not actually of 'heights', but of 'falling from heights'. Nothing irrational about that. But every time you start to panic, just remember DCL has a vested interest in keeping you safe and has done it's best to insure you and your family will be very safe.

here's a view from deck 5 in the atrium on the Wonder ...
again, the rails are on the high side. check out the people on deck 4 (the atrium floor is deck 3)

LOL, I appreciate that, and it really is true, except that I understand logically that people who are chest high to a railing would need to be picked up to fall, or have the entire structure dissolve right as they were standing there.

I try to remind myself though that nobody, of millions of people before me has been hurt there.

I get having a fear, but please try not to pass that fear onto your kids. The ship is very safe, even standing at the railing. Of course, they shouldn't climb on anything to get a better look, but standing at the railing is completely fine. So many parents (mine included) pass their irrational fears down to their kids and there is no benefit to that.

it took me a second to realize that you were answering the topic question, you seem to have the group consensus on that. :crowded:
I disagree :rolleyes1 ... I think that the consensus is trying to inform you that you WILL BE SAFE. That being said, it's quite likely that you will continue to have your fear - therefore you will have some issues (normal fear and irrational fear are Powerful Feelings - not easily gotten rid of) ...

but just remember
:sail: HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!! pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

and don't sign up for any zip-lining :scared1: excursions :wave2:::yes::

My mom is so scared of heights. When boarding you walk through a hallway from the terminal to the ship that has glass windows. I had her take my arm and we briskly walked through. I encouraged her to look straight ahead. Once on the ship we were fine. It is possible to spend very little time near rails. The windows on the pool deck level go all the way up and there is furniture between the walkways and windows so she was fine. We stepped out on deck 4 because it was the fastest way to get from forward to aft one time and it was windy and she didn't like it. I had her take my elbow again and I brought her back inside. I think it's good to be prepared and can be helpful if your family knows about your fear and are willing to help you.
