Ironing question

Ok, this may sound a little odd, but I have noticed when I use my iron (which is about one year old) it seems to emit an odd odor onto my clothes. I hate to admit it but it almost smells like B.O. I am ironing freshly washed clothes too. I used to use Downey Wrinkle Release while I was ironing but my grocery store stop carrying it so I don't know if the smell was there before and I didn't notice it. Does anyone know what is going on and how to get rid of that odor? It's not stale water either, I don't have any in the iron. Or is that the problem?

when you smell it, are you ironing over the armpit? Some of the smell may not come out in the wash, but the heat and steam release it...

This is probably what's happening. I notice it with my DH's dress shirts sometimes, if I do not OxyClean the armpits before washing.

I love that OxyClean. Spray it on the armpits. That yellow staining is gone and they smell fresh. I also spray it on the neck of the shirt too. Gets rid of the "ring around the collar".

Thanks all! I don't think it was really over the armpit. For example, this morning as soon as I ironed my shirt it smelled and I was ironing the front of the shirt, around the chest area. But it looks like I'll be buying Oxyclean anyway!

Do you think it would get WHITE armpit stains out of BLACK shirts?
