iron on Polo ( mesh or waffle weave) fabric

Has anyone tried to put an iron on a polo stye shirt that has a mesh or a waffle weave to the fabric? ( the fabric is not flat like the tshirt its a little uneven)

Actually yes, and it was a mess and I tossed it out...the shirts need mostly cotton..
