Iraq vs. Disney

Unfortunatly we can't move the trip up because DD(5) is in school until 6/24 and the Air Force won't give DH time off. Too much to do to get ready for deployment. They said he MIGHT be able to get a couple days off next month, but don't count on it. Well, I talked to DH and we are planning on going on vacation with him when he gets back from Iraq. This trip it will just be me and DDs. I keep trying to come up with reasons this will be good; like getting year passes instead of park hoppers and more money for us girls to spend, oh and now DH can't say, "Does Remy (DD) have to have another princess costume?!" or "HOW much money did you spend on THAT?!" Cause, ya know, Iraq is FAR away and I don't have to show DH my purchases or hide them out of sight.;)

What do you think your kids will remember 10 years from now? Their magical trip with their family to WDW or a week of school. I think being afraid of pulling them out of school is a big mistake. This may sound terrible, but what if something were to happen to your husband or he needs to stay there even longer? Your kids are going to wish they had that special time with their father. I think if you can, take them with their father!

It's not a matter of taking DD out of school early, but of him getting leave. He gets weekends off (sometimes) and can't take leave since they are getting ready to deploy and are really busy getting gear and meetings, etc. We can't go beyond a certain mile radius when "on call" for deployment so even if he can get a week off we can't leave NY. I am pretty sure we have to stay within a 300 mile radius. It's kind of a no win situation.
We are planning on doing a few things locally, like DDs ballet recital and going to bolt castle, but are limited since he can leave at any time. Also we will go on vacation with DH after he comes back next year.

That's too bad, especially when you've been planning. Well, I'm sure you guys can make the best of the situation and have near as much fun at home enjoying each other's company. :flower:

Best Wishes to your Family!!
