I'm considering getting myself my first ipod. I currently have a sansa rhapsody mp3 player, but I think I want to make the switch because recently my sansa has become more of a pain than anything.

The thing is I know nothing about them! I think I only need a 5th generation nano, but the more I look at the new touches the more I like them. So I'm wondering what you guys think about your ipods and what you would suggest. I only have 320 songs on my sansa but that's because it's impossible to get anything new onto it lately. So suggest away :)

(Oh and do you know if I got my sansa stripped, would I be able to trade it or sell it? store cred maybe?)

Thanks :goodvibes

While you might be able to get an iPod with a black friday deal (typically giftcards), also consider getting an ipod direct from Apple.com refurbished. Go to the site, click on "store", then on the bottom/left side it has special deals - refurbished ipods, macs.

I have goten quite a few (for myself, wife, presents for others). iPod classics, a few nanos, one touch. They put a new screen/exterior over the previous electronics - they look brand new and have always worked great (we use ours daily). You need to check the site daily - stock changes quickly. In the past there have been 8 gig nanos (5th gen) for $99, and 8 gig touches (previous - no camera) for 150. A quick check now does not have any of these lower models, but they may become available after Thanksgiving.

Also, Apple always has a one day black friday sale. Often what is on sale leaks on either appleinsider.com or macrumors.com at some point this week. If you get direct from Apple you can get your name engraved on the back for free.

If you think you may enjoy some of the casual games (such as Angry Birds), go with the touch. If you have wifi at your home, you may want a new touch (as opposed to a refurbished one) for the FaceTime and Video camera.

(Sorry - I am not a teen, but had checked this section while thinking of having my teenage daughter do a trip report as a homeschool project, and stumbled onto your question)

nano. its the easiest.

i have had a nano, touch and a classic. if you dont have much music, then nano. i'd say only get a classic if you have thousands of songs.

luv luv luv apple. i will never go back to Microsoft. just sayin.

----> go to apple.com and click on ipods and you can look at the different styles and see what one fits you best

another helpful thing is to go to an apple store (if you have one near you). they can help you with any questions you might have.

for the trading in thing---go to best buy and ask how much you could get for a trade-in. or sell it on ebay or something

I have a Nano and I love it to death. It's the previous model, so a 4 generation (I think)

I currently have 901 songs on there and it's nearing capacity.
I also love the solitaire game on there.

I have the iPod Classic 120 gb and I LOVE it! As was said earlier, a 120gb is only good if you have a TON of songs or, in my case, movies and tv shows. Mine is almost full and about 95% of it is videos. And I have 1,600 song on it too.

I suggest an Ipod nano 5th generation. I love it. It is so easy to use and figure out. The only thing i don't like is that I often have trouble figuring out itunes. haha. Other then that, it's so simple and easy to use. Also, it has great sound and i LOVE that it has a speaker so you don't always have to use headphones. I wouldn't get a touch screen just cause they get fingerprints and get dirty and therer hard to use. I hate touch screens. They annoy the crap out of me. But that's just me. Also, if you don't have a lot of music the nano is a good choice b/c it still holds a lot of music but not overly much.
