I have an ipod and DH has a zune. We each have our own laptops, so all our music is separate...but I realized the other day that we have bought a lot of the same music. What a waste of money to buy songs/albums twice!! Is there any way to share??

None that I know of. Apple is a bear to share ANYTHING. One DS has an IPod, one has a Zune and I have a Zune. WAY easier than IPod!

Couldn't you minimally burn CDs off your itunes and he re-rip them however his Zune brings in music? I'm sure there is some more technical way to do it, lol, but that is what I did to put stuff on my itunes onto DD's generic little mp3 player.

Buy them from wherever for his Zune and then you can put them on your IPod. Apple is the only one to not share music types. If you buy it from ITunes then it's only for an IPod, buy it from Amazon or microsoft and you can listen on anything anywhere.

I agree with the poster that says to burn an MP3 CD and then upload them to ZUNE or vice versa.

I download music from Amazon to my Zune and I am able to open that folder in Windows and send it to my Sansa Clip.

I don't know why it would not work for any other device?:confused3

Because Apple does not work & play well with others. Also runs with scissors.

Seriously though, they do not want you sharing with their stuff. Apple is "special" and makes it impossible to share.

Which is why I didn't buy an iPod!:thumbsup2

I just click on the the song that I want saved on my computer (not in my zune playlist) and drag it to my iphone play list. My son saw me doing it one day and I caught him doing the same with his ipod

It certainly isn't "impossible" to share an iTunes library with other devices.

OP, you need to figure out which songs you have that contain DRM. If you google there are plenty of sites that will walk you through that. You need to get them un-DRMd and then converted to mp3 files. A common method is burning to cd and then loading back in. I don't like to do that because I don't like wasting cds. There are software programs which can do it also.

Going further, just never load anything into iTunes (or any other music management software) that has DRM or isn't in a common format like mp3. It isn't hard.

In the settings for Zune software, you need to make sure you set it up to look for music in the itunes storage folder.
Once you do, anything that isn't DRM protected will show up in the Zune collection. Sometimes, you'll need to make it look in the folder for individual artists though.
