How much will it cost a kid to use AFTER the initial purchase price???
My 13yo daughter is showing a Big Interest in an Ipod Touch (the majority of her friends have them). I looked it up online and have a vague idea of what you can use it for, but I can't get a feel for how much this could possibly cost over time.
She claims that her friends are NOT paying to download videos (they use netflix??), or music (they just load what they already have or use giftcards from birthdays), apps & games (there are plenty that are free??) etc., but I find this pretty hard to believe.
IF this is true, I would consider letting her buy it herself OR giving it as her main Christmas present or something like that (it would fit within our budget for something like that). But, my fear is we'll spend that kind of money and she'll be constantly wanting more to download this or that. (I also wonder if this is really worthwhile when she already has a laptop, cellphone with texting, game systems at home, and Zune for her music. Seems like spending money for more of the same.)
And just to be clear, money is an issue right now. We're not in debt or jobless or anything like that, but our budget is so TIGHT it squeaks thanks to car issues and some big medical bills. We don't have month to month mad money right now, every spare cent is going toward these bills.
What do you all think? What are kids really using these for and how much can it potentially cost month to month?? Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill....but I really know NOTHING about them and what the kids are using them for....
