I'm trying to decide if I want to get an Ipod touch. I'm going to be having surgery soon and I can't life anything over 5-10 pounds for awhile which will limit the amount of stuff I can take with me. I was thinking about getting a touch because it's small and has internet capabilities, which means I can leave my laptop at home. Yay! If you have one, do you like it? How does the internet on it work? Do you have to be in a wi-fi hotspot or will it pick up a signal anywhere? What do you like about it? What do you dislike? Is the internet fairly decent and fast? I'm thinking of going with the 32 GB. Thanks!

I love mine.
You do need to be in a wi-fi hotspot to get on the internet. It is not as fast as my (brand new) laptop, but is reasonably fast and doesn't lag badly when loading internet pages.
I have a 32 GB model and still have a little over half the space left.

Here's what I have on mine:
1351 songs
18 videos (including one full movie)
240 photos
158 applications

The apps are the best thing. I have lots of games, some books and other things to pass time with.

I loved mine when I had it (sold it when I got an iPhone this past summer). The speed was more than adequate for internet browsing, and if you get a 32GB, you'll have plenty of room for tons of music and videos (music videos or TV shows or movies) and podcasts and pretty much whatever you want.

I have 2.12 GB free on my 32GB iPhone, and here's what I've got on it:

- 526 songs (some of which are in Apple lossless format, which makes the filesize a whole heck of a lot bigger than "normal" mp3 files)
- 196 videos (many music videos and a couple of full-length movies. Oh, and several episodes of The Office)
- 959 photos
- 57 apps

I had a 16GB iPod Touch before this and always wanted more capacity; it seemed like I was doing too much micro-managing of my library on a day-to-day basis. Doubling the storage has been wonderful (which isn't to say that if someday they come out with a 64GB iPhone I won't jump at it! Lol.)

i got one for videos and music and games for my surgery.
however the hospital was not a spot for internet service.

Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2 I'm definitely leaning towards getting one. Especially since I can put movies on it and it's portable. I only have 1 movie and 150 songs on my current Ipod so I think that 32 GB should be more than ample. :thumbsup2

Some hospitals do have wi-fi in them like Swedish in Seattle, some don't. I wish they all did. It makes the time pass by so much faster.

I think I'll go look at the apps. What ones do y'all particularly like? Which ones are kinda sucky and should be avoided?

I adore mine!

The internet is fast and advanced, the apps you can get from the store (over 140,000!) are sometimes really cool (Google Earth, Doom and Trillian are my favourite), the capacity for music is good, the video playback is great and the system loaded on the iTouch is perfect.

Not a bad word to say about it :)

iTouch is awesome!! The Internet is great on it. I am 'DISing' on it right now. are so many fun apps. Scrabble, Word Warp, and Google Earth are some of my favorites. Oh and Tripping Fest. I LOVE this thing!! At this point my 3 y/o DS is the only family member without his own but he knows his way around one!

I enjoy my Itouch, but somehow I locked myself off my school's network so I gotta get that fixed. There's a thread on the Budget Board that keeps an ongoing list of free apps, well worth checking out!

Its so funny this was posted today--I JUST asked my brother about his Itouch.

So its perfect timing!

I had no idea that I would LOVE LOVE LOVE my Ipod Touch so much. Very quick to check my email, facebook, news, etc. I have added it to my Kindle account and can also read books on the Itouch now. I have current addictions to SkeeBall, and Farm Frenzy. I just downloaded the period tracker so that I can track when I will be witchy. :rotfl2:

Do take into account the iPad!

It's soooooo cool! It's got a 1024x768 multi-touch screen, a blazing fast processor, 10 hours of play time and a month of standby. Internet on it is a beauty and you can fit 64GB on it.

It'll be available within a month or a little while longer if you want mobile phone coverage.

It took me months to decide if I should get the 32 gig touch. I mean it became the running joke. I posted facebook polls, I posted Dis threads. It came down to me walking into the Apple store and driving them crazy with questions as should I upgrade to a touch or a classic.

After a month, I can truly say the touch is a godsend. What I love is I can power it on before I power on my lap-top.

The video quality is amazing. I've been stuck on the couch for weeks after an orthopedic surgery--I really wish I had the touch and it's capabilities seven years ago. It would've been a godsend for the boredom.

We got one for my son for Christmas last year, and right now, I use it more than he does.

The internet is amazing on it, especially compared to what I get on my phone. One thing really cool thing is watching youtube videos with the image maximized to the Ipod screen. My son's band has some videos on youtube, and I love watching/listening to them. :)

I use the stylus from his DS Nintendo if I need to type with it. Works better than my fingers.

I've had my 32 gig touch for about 3-4 months now. It was a replacement for my 30 gig iPod that was several years old and the battery wasn't holding a charge for more than 30 minutes or so. I haven't had a chance to do much on the net with my touch, but I do really like it for music (about 6500 songs), a handful of videos, and a couple of apps(both Disney related). It's such a cool device that is capable of so much. If you're going to be out of commision for a while, I'd think you could kill a LOT of time with it--especially if you have wireless access.:)

Wow! Thanks everyone! I think you've pretty much sold me on it. I'm going to be laid up for a long time, so it would be nice to have it. The only bad thing is that it won't do much for me at home in the way of internet since we don't have wireless, but the games and apps and stuff should be good. :thumbsup2

Don't forget the Kindle app (hopefully it is still free), then you can download free books from Amazon too. It isn't as nice as a real Kindle, but I have read several books on mine when I am killing time here and there.

Cool! I had no idea I could do the kindle thing on there too. I love it. :thumbsup2:cool1: A few good books would be really nice.

Rich, how big is the Ipad? It's the size of a laptop or close to it isn't it? I looked at the Air book or whatever that really light weight one is, but it's wayyyyyyyyyyyy too expensive!

:thumbsup2 I love listen to my WDW music (16 hours worth) at work on my Iphone at my desk. DH also has an Iphone and is an App Addict. He has to move apps out to put more in...Tuesdays are extra special at our house. He also has an ITouch and an 80GB IPod. He is chomping at the bit to get the second generation IPad, after they work out the kinks. :cutie:

Toy Story Mania is also available as an app, though it's not free. But $4.99 is well worth how much time you'll end up killing playing it! A lot of it is extremely similar to the ride (and nearly identical to the Wii game, if you've ever seen that). I love it!

The iPad is a high-resolution, 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display that is just 1.5 pounds and 0.5 inch thin and starts at $499.

Reading the daily newspapers on it is a dream!

Plus, if you wait a little bit longer and fork out a bit more, you won't have to worry about wifi - you could have a contract for mobile internet. Happily, the iPad is unlocked, meaning that you aren't tied down to a specific plan or carrier :)

Me? I'll b saving for the works - 64GB plus 3GS and WiFi internet :teeth:
