I remember a thread that was talking about cases and everyone said to get the Otterbox case, but the reviews on Amazon say that it's a pain if you dock. The silicone ones keep them from sliding around, but the hard cases might protect better if dropped?

Also, the Target salesperson talked me into some "razu" screen protectors that were $15 so buying two set me back $30. Just wondering if I need a REALLY good one? Or would others not as expensive would work just as well.

Any opinions? Thanks!!

I get my cases and screen protectors on amazon. I usually get the silicone ones, under $7. I got an otterbox knock off last month and I HATE it! As you said, I can't dock with it and I usually listen to my music with my docking station. As soon as I get a chance, I'm going to order another one like I had. I like the ones that cover the home button, more protection that way.

For what it's worth, I went a different route with my ipod protection. I have the regular stick-on screen cover and a $3 snap on backing from overstocks.com. Both of those are really to keep scratches and fingerprints to a minimum. Neither gets in the way with docking it.

For the real protection, I have a Built neoprene camera case:

The "Hoodie" model has a hard back to it- I always put the ipod in with the screen facing that way. It's a bit more cumbersome, but I'm happy with it anyway.

I'm looking at Electomaster ones. They seems to have pretty good reviews and really cute designs. :) Still may return the "amazing" screen protectors from Target.

really cute case!

I like the Otterbox Defender for protection. I bought an $8 extension cable so I can still use my iHome alarm/radio/dock. As long as you get an extension that is for data transfer as well as charging, you will keep all the functionality of your dock and have the protection of the Otterbox.

I agree. My kids have dropped the iPod many times...and the otterbox has really protected it well. I just bought my 2 kids iPods for Christmas and will be buying them each an otterbox from Amazon. I think it is the only way to go if you want the ultimate protection. I have a generic extension cable and use it in my dock when I want to play music without the headphones...works great for me.

I got my Otterbox on Ebay and it was about half the price of Amazon. Genuine product and I've been very happy with it.

Can you point me towards the extension cable? I really want to buy my daughter an Otterbox for hers, but she does use it on her iHome a lot so that would make it possible...
