Long story short: my ipod landed in the toilet. I replaced it with a new one, but the old one was only 12 weeks old when the incident happened and I can't seem to part with it. I am thinking that if I got it repaired I could give it to my DS for Christmas. But for water damage - who could fix it & what kind of cost would I be looking at???

I live in a rural area, no places around here do it as far as I know.

My son's iTouch went through the washer AND the dryer at his dad's house :scared1:

I put it in a bag of rice for about a week. I was shocked to see it work! :cool1:

It's worth a try.

Did you happen to buy it with a credit card? Many credit cards have free "double the warranty" insurance, providing that you bought the item with the card. My son dropped his week old MP3 player in the toilet a few years ago, and we were able to use the free insurance to replace it.

I bought it about 2 years ago, so I don't have any records of it at all. I did the rice thing, but it was just too far gone I guess.

If you have an Apple store near by, go in there. They have the Genius bar that will take care of you.

Our nearest Apple store is in NYC and that's 3 hours away....so that's not an option for me either :-(

My son's itouch had water damage and would not work. I tried rice and it still would not work. I ended up selling it on ebay for parts and put the money towards a new itouch.

Apple won't help you if it is a water issue...they may offer you 10% off another product but that is it. This is why i like square trade warranties they even cover this. There are websites on line you can google them you mail them your iPod and then they mail you back a repair estimate if it is possible. Expect to spend no less than 100$ repairing it you can elect to do the repair and pay them usually, sell it to them for parts in some cases, or have it returned to you unrepaired if you think the repair costs top much.

There is a place you can ship it. I took mine there because I live close but it is called Iphoneaid. They fixed my Ipod Classic. I broke the screen for only $49.

www.iphoneaid.com

They will repair and ship it back.

Not necessarily. While this is the official line. I've had Ipods, Iphones that were out of warranty or had an issue that was clearly not covered by the terms of service and I have always had them repaired or replaced free of charge. I always go in and ask is there anything they can do for the item. They state XYZ needs to be done or replaced. Then they say; while it's not covered I'll do it for free....So, it can't hurt to ask.

A friend of mine, also a swimmer, took her iPhone in to Apple when it wasn't working and they told her she had gotten it wet. She had, at the pool. They gave her a brand new one. They will replace them if they get wet, you just have to get the right person, I guess.

The moisture detector is viewed by shining a light in the earplug hole. It changes colors when it has been wet. I've had a similar incident with an iPod Touch. It was dropped in the potty by a two year old. I did the rice in the zip lock trick and after a week, it worked.

Now that iPod is in a Woogie and the two year old still plays with it.
