Ipod Touch: please help the ignorant !

My ds 11 has asked for an Ipod Touch for Christmas. My question is this: do I need a wireless internet connection for this device to function? Any advice welcome. Thanks

no you don't need it for it to function. It has the capability to access the connection if there is one present (it can be your neighbors). If he is to load things (games, videos, music, etc) on it, he is going to need a way to do that, either computer or wireless connection--or a friends computer.

No you do not need a wireless connection. The iTouch can be hard wired, with the included usb cord, to the computer for downloading material (songs, podcasts, shows, apps, etc.). It has the capability to connect to the internet via wireless but it isn't required.

If you use an ipod touch at a place that offers free wifi and you connect to their router is it possible for someone to see your ipod thru that network? Or I guess what I'm asking is... is there anything to worry about connecting to a free wifi network using an ipod touch?
