iPod Touch or iPhone?

I have an IPod Touch and my fave app is Skype! I bought a headset with mic for about $30 at WalMart and have WiFi at home so making calls is free with it. Best budget saver yet!

Just an FYI if you get the Iphone, you are required to get the data plan, which I believe is about $40.00...

They have changed their data plan pricing (and actually threw in some options).

I was locked into that horrid manditory $30 data plan until recently. I came across a thread here talking about our choices now!

I was able to bump it down to $15 a month which is totally doable! I don't know what the requirements would be, seeing as you have so many phones on one plan, but my guess would be that you have a choice.

My personal opinion is this: if you buy an iTouch you will soon want the all-in-one iPhone.

I have had mine for a few years and love it!

Have fun...purchasing either will be fun!

Love it. Love it, love it, love it! I couldn't live without it. I really love being able to only carry one device with me at all times, and it really does it all. Phone, text, internet, it's all right there in one fabulous little package. I can take pics of things and e-mail them at once with the click of a button. I can check my e-mail while calling my husband to ask him what he wants for dinner. In a word, it's AMAZING. I couldn't live without it. Plus, I can look up all of my Disney wait times and restaraunt menus on it as well!!!

I text quite a bit during the day and I will admit I plan to use the music feature A LOT, I want to stick it in a pocket, snake the earbuds up through my jacket sleeve, and listen to some soothing music to drown out some of the stupidity I hear at work....

I have not read the entire thread, but I wanted to mention that you can text with the Ipod touch. My teens have an ap that actually supplies you with a regular phone number and you are able to have unlimited texting. Of course, you do have to be where wifi is available. My younger son came across the ap for free (I do not know where). Just something else to think about.

Both of my teens have the Ipod touch and the love it. I was willing to buy the one time expensive device, but I was not willing to sign on for the expensive monthly plan, so Iphones were not an option for them (we have 5 tracfones and we pay about $30 a month on average).

Not to be a thread stealer but does anyone know when the older generation of the ipod will go cheaper now that the new ipod is out? I need 3 for Xmas and am looking for the cheapest possible ipod touches.

Just be aware that the Skype App on the iTouch cannot replace a cell phone. The only way you can receive incoming calls is for the iTouch to be on, connected to a wifi, and the Skype App be up and running. It works great for outgoing calls, especially overseas when calling back home to check on family, but not practical for incoming calls.

Yes, with the Text Free app you can text anyone who can receive a text.

Even though I'm fairly anti iphone...how about picking up a used 3gs from craigslist and just putting your sim card in? Can probably find one for same price as you would if you were going to buy one on contract and it will give you a feel for the internet service in your area. They don't lose value much either so if you don't want it or want to upgrade to version 4 then should be an easy resell.

Like others have mentioned the 4g refers to generation not data speeds, AT&T will likely be the last to imlement 4g speeds.

Btw typing this from my iPod. It's not so fun for web surfing and typing IMO.

As far as prices go for the data....AT&T IMO messed things up by adding limits. If your going to use it mostly for some web browsing and not streaming any music or video while on network(not wifi)then you can probably get away with the $15 200mb limit plan. Otherwise the 2gig plan is $25 a month.
