Well, if you get the iPod touch wouldn't there be a big chance your mom might lose that, too? :p

no, cause id keep that thing locked up in a big bulky case (so she doesnt break it or drown it) and only bring it out wen i use it

the bass.

It won't become obsolete in 6 months.
And its something that might be useful later in life.
Being able to play music actualy can make you smarter too so I think thats better then an ipod touch anyday.

^ ITA! The thing is, in a couple months Apple will come out with something new, and iPod touch will be boring and old news. Get the bass!

Bass would be much more expensive, what with all the lessons and accessories. I also wouldn't go with the iPod Touch -- it'll become out of date in a few months, and it'll probably get lost again. I'd ask for something more modest.

I'd ask for the bass ONLY if you know you'd stick with it. I know a lot of people who have spent thousands on instruments/lessons and then they'd quit right after getting the instrument. Big waste of money, IMO.

What you could do is ask for the bass and then save up money and buy your iTouch yourself. If your parents don't regularly give you money that you could save, ask your parents if you could do jobs around the house and get paid for them. Trust me - you'll probably be a lot more careful with it if you buy it with your own money.

If it was me I would pick the ipod since I dont have one and I need one for my car...but learning an instrument(guitar) changed my life so if you dont already have an MP3 or iPod get the Bass. You dont really need an expensive one, just go for one a pack that is around $100-$200 with the amp, case, tuner, and whatever else comes with it. I personally would teach myself to play since it is cheaper and it challenges you more, plus you could get a cheap "Idiots Guide to playing the bass" at a Barnes and Noble. All you need to learn is chords and picking techniques and then move onto songs. Ipods are much more expensive if you download the songs legally
