iPod Touch having issues

My DS8 left his iPod in his pocket. I did not check his pockets and washed the shorts with the iPod. I turned it on and it worked but kept flipping screens and this Voice Control would pop up.

We put it in rice for about a day and then i hooked it up to iTunes and did the restore.

It worked for about a month with no problems at all. Now the stupid voice control keeps popping up again. I tried restore again and no better. Anyone have the Voice Control issue? Anyone know how i fix it?

I feel so bad, DS saved his money and bought it on his own. i feel i should have checked his pockets. I really want to help him wiht it. We are going on vacation in 2 days so i can't take it to the Apple store before we leave. He'd love to have it on the trip.

Is the voice control problem happening with the ear buds connected? If so, try another pair, but not the kind with the voice/volume control in the cord. I had this problem (not water related) and just switched ear buds. Worked fine and realized the Apple brand ear buds' sound is very poor.

My daughter dropped hers in the sink while under warranty and the Apple Store replaced it with no questions asked. I'm not sure if that is policy or the benevolence of the employee.

He bought it at ToyRUs right after new years so i'm sure no warranty.

It has nothing to do with headphones, he never uses them.

Thanks for the response though!

It was the benevolence of the employee. I went into Apple after washing DS's iPod Touch (still under warranty, too) and there's ways they can tell if it was damaged by water (there's a line that appears in the earphone jack). They wouldn't replace.

If i were you, I'd go out and buy a new one and surprise him with it.

If he doesn't use the voice command is there a way to go into settings and turn it off?, Just wondering. I have an ipod touch but it is an old one without voice commands.

I just googled it and came up with this

Select settings then select accessibility then select your required choice and select speak hints to off.

Not sure what that means give it a try.

You could always get him an iPad, since it's too big to put through the wash. :rotfl2:

Your son deserves a new one. Find and excuse to surprise him.:cool1:

Why does he "deserve" a new one? If he's old enough to have an iPod Touch, he's old enough to take it out of his pocket. Mom did nothing wrong - she just did laundry.

Why does he deserve a new one? I have an 11yo and she's left things in her pockets that have gotten washed. Nothing expensive like this but still things that mattered to her. Of course I felt badly but not responsible. In this situation I might help buy another one with the understanding that it was a one time benevolent act.

OP I'd at least go to an Apple store to see if anyone could help you. Maybe they'd have a refubrished one you could get.

OP, from everything I have read, a day isnt long enough to put it in rice.

I would leave it in there longer... They says as long as possible up to a week.

HTH

That was a month ago, so I don't think rice is going to help at this point.

OP look into turning off voice control. I don't have mine near me or I would look to see if that is possible..

:: facepalm :: I didnt see that... sorry OP.

You may still have a warranty, and the Apple store would honor it and try to fix it for you. Call the store or go online, they will give you an appointment time so you can make it a quick trip. If it isn't fixable and the warranty won't cover it, they will take it in exchange for a new one and give you a small discount on a new one.

I am really not trying to open up a can of worms, but Mom doesn't take any responsibility with an 8 year old? Really not picking on the OP here, I am not at all....just more the general idea that an 8 year old should know to take all valuables out of their pockets before putting their clothes in the dirty laundry pile/bin. I check all pockets now with a 5 year old...as well as my own pockets because at times I still act like a 5 year old!!

I would imgaine there is quite a difference between an 8 year old and an 11 year old.....

Maybe he's not old enough and we just learned why...
