iPod Touch As a Camera?

I was thinking of getting an iPod Touch to use as a camera instead of a real camera because it would hold my music and games as well when I travel. I can't afford an iPhone so I thought the iPod Touch would be the next best thing.

Has anyone used the iPod Touch 5th Generation's camera and what did you think of it?

I heard there may be an announcement of an iPod Touch 6th Generation next month so I'm waiting to see if there will be a sale but wanted to get some info on the latest model now.

It's okay but I wouldn't want to use it for vacation photos.

They just dropped the price recently and often run promos ($20 target gift card). I got one for my dd off cowboom (gently used) for about $120 cheaper than new but the prices on cowboom haven't moved much so I'd buy new.

Yeah, it's decent, but I'd want a "real" camera for vacation photos-- but it really depends on what your end goal is.

The iPod Touch has a 5mp camera, which is enough to print a decent 4x6 photo, but not enough to make a nice 8x10 print. If you aren't going to print any at all, and just post them online, you may be perfectly fine with a 5mp camera -- that tends to be plenty for most social media uses.

but, more important than megapixels, is the quality of the image sensor, and I'm pretty sure just about any real camera will beat the iPod there.

You could buy a great Canon point & shoot camera for about $100. You will have far better pictures then using the ipod.

I have an iPhone 5s and the only time the camera is used is just for a quick pic if I don't have my real camera, I would never use it as a replacement to a camera.

The iPod touch camera is nowhere near as good as the iphone's camera, I thought the same as you and bought an iPod 4th generation a while ago and the photos are really not good, you're much better off getting a decent point and shoot camera.

I don't disagree in principle but the camera on the 5th generation touch is much better than the camera on the 4th generation touch. For video the 5th generation touch is almost as good as an iPhone 5. But I still think buying any phone or MP3 player to use as a camera doesn't make sense at this point.

iPhone 4s (mine) has excellent photo quality.....not sure about iPod touch, possibly 5th gen. Is better than 4th camera,my son has one and the camera isn't great.... That said,op do you want a camera or a device? If your goal is pictures, get a decent point and shoot for well under 100.00 and have fun.
National Geographic actually sends reporters out with iphones, those cameras are that good. And as I've said for many years, the camera is only part of good pictures.....the biggest factor beyond a decent lens and enough Mp ( at least 7-8) what matters most is learning how to use a camera well..... I love my iPhone for pics so much, the only other camera I need is my Nikon for underwater pics(cost less than $100)

Basically, I'm looking for a device to use for music, games, video and pictures for when I travel. I have an iPad but it doesn't fit in my purse so I thought a Touch might be a good alternative.

I think the pictures are OK, not great. For me it's all about the convenience of having one device do many things. I have always used my iPhone for pictures on our vacations. My DD has the touch and has taken some really nice pics with it.
