I have been saving up my amazon gift cards I earned from swagbucks to buy my DH an ipod touch for Christmas (Yes, I'm planning ahead!:thumbsup2) I am not a technically savvy person, so I don't really know much about this stuff. I can get an 8gb or a 32gb touch from amazon (there don't seem to be any 16gb available.) How much memory do I really need? I anticipate he'll use it for listening to music, watching videos, playing games, etc.

Also, should I wait a while to see if the price drops or does the price pretty much stay the same even if a new model comes out? I'd appreciate any advice you guys can give.

I got my daughter an 8G for end of school year and she has several aps, her disny pictures from this year and a handful of songs and she has used more than half already..just food for thought, if he is really going to be downloading videos and games and music I would opt for the bigger one if you could swing it.

Go with the 32gb as it has more space and is a better choice. I bought my son the 32 gb for Christmas and I won the 8gb from school. The 8gb just runs slower because Itunes takes up so much space already. There are also better options on the 32.

I bought mine about 4 months ago,I think the options are 8GB,32GB and 64GB,I bought the 32GB and I use it to surf the net, play games, listen to music on Pandora and some podcasts.I've put dozens and dozens of apps in it and I still have so much room I doubt I'll ever get close to filling it.

I agree there is plenty of space on the 8GB. I have about 2 pages of Apps, 500 pics, and over 3 hours of music and videos and still have plenty of space. My ipod is the family ipod. I thing my daughter and DH are on it more than me. I bought mine off ebay and am very happy with it. The price is pretty constant at places like Best Buy but lower on ebay and amazon. If you don't mind a refurbished one you can save some bucks. Mine was a store return and I also got a square trade warranty for a year.

My son bought his i pod a few months ago and he already has used over 8g. The 3rd generation 32 and 64 I think are suppose to run faster. Unless you plan on downloading a bunch of movies the 32 g should be enough.

I have 32G and use about 20. I wouldn't bother with the 8G although my DH has 8 and it's fine for him. He has a handful of apps, a couple of CDs worth of music, some pictures, and no movies stored on there. He uses it mainly for surfing the web.

My daughter has an 8G, and it's more than enough for her. She has tons of songs on it, BUT she only uses it for music.

Get the 32 gig. I have the 32 and have hours of songs, like 8 movies, apps galore and still have plenty of space. My DD has the 8 gig and she has already complained she keeps having to delete stuff because she doesn't have enough storage.

I have the 8 and it's not big enough. I have to take music off to put video on when I fly anywhere. If $ is not a huge issue go with the 32.

Go with the 32G. But wait till the fourth generation comes out. This should be real soon!! You can get the latest I pod touch or the 3rd gen may reduce in cost! You have options!

I got mine when they still had a 16. I was debating on the 8, but decided to just go ahead and get the larger one. I'm glad I did. While I still don't have it filled, I've been gaining more music since buying it (so easy to just download off iTunes!) I have well more than 8 gigs filled and I use it mostly for music, a few apps, and pictures. I would definitely go with the 32.

I use my iPod touch a ton. It was totally worth the expense. I got the 32gb because the ones with the smaller memory do not have voice (at least they didn't when I bought mine). I buy minutes on Skype and use it to make all of my long distance calls, or voice Skype for free. There's free wifi almost everywhere you go. Saves money on my prepaid phone and the calls are much clearer.

However, I think they will be coming out with a new model soon that has a camera. I would really like that, but the cameras on the Apple products arent the best, so I guess I really don't need a new one when they come out.

So I would say go with the 32

If you even THINK he will use it for movies - go with the larger memory capacity. I have my 8gb iPhone full - and I ONLY have music on it. I actually have had to go through and manually select the music I put on my iPhone because my iTunes library is larger than 8gb - and that isn't good - I don't like not having ALL my music at my fingertips!

I'm not much of a movie junkie - but if I had a bigger iPhone I imagine I would be HAHA :lmao:

Like many posters have stated go with the largest size you can. I had a 16g iphone and it was full of movies, music, pictures, apps, etc within 6 months. I hated having to take things on and off. I recently upgraded to the iphone4 32g. ahve only had it a month or so and am at 17g full. My itunes library has about 28g of music alone.

My dd (9yrs) bought herself an 8g. She has about 50 songs, 5 episodes of tv shows, the movie Alvin and The Chipmunks, and many games/apps. She has only used 1/2 the capacity. For her that size is perfect.

Don't buy it now !!! New version should be coming out as early as next week, as late as September.

New version is going to be pretty much like the iPhone 4, including front face camera and the ability to do FaceTime. Also, faster processor, iOS4 and the ability to do multi task.

Pricing will probably be the same as the existing ones, but might only be available on 16/32gb.

Thanks, guys, for all the advice. Every seems to have confirmed what I was already thinking... 32gb but wait a month or two cause the price might drop or a newer model will come out. I KNEW my disboard friends could help me figure it out. My DH is gonna be sooooo stoked!

DBF and DD14 both have 8 gig touches, that's plenty for them. DBF can put 1 or 2 movies on his and they both have plenty of music and a lot of apps, the 8 gig works great for them. :)

Apple normally releases new iPods around September or so, so I'd wait. I've heard rumors that the next generation of iPod touches will have a nice display like the iPhone 4 and a camera.
