iPod setup for reception...

We're using an iPod next week for our reception. ANY advice/info would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Even some pictures of the setup!! Do the speakers sound good?? Is there a larger volume control?? Does the setup keep your ipod charged or do we need a charger?? any info is helpful!!! thanks!

Great question! I'm doing the Ipod setup too. I want to use it at SBP and when I finally find a place to have our dinner and/or reception...I would need to use it there. How much are the fees to do this? Is it better to provide my own Ipod boombox? Thanks.

The speakers are the same large, pro speakers you get if you hire a DJ through Disney. They sound great. The iPod is hooked up to a mixer with separate volume control through a cable running out of the headphone jack. So you can either control volume on the iPod or on the mixer. Because the connection is not through the Apple dock connector at the base of the iPod, the system does not charge your iPod. Disney even tells you to be sure your iPod is fully charged.

However, you can get an adaptor to stick on the end of your USB dock connector that allows you to plug it into a wall socket. If your battery doesn't hold a charge and you need to keep it plugged in, just be sure you get a long cable in case the outlet isn't nearby.

The charge to have Disney do a sound setup for an iPod at SBP is something like $800. So you may want to bring your own battery-operated iPod boombox, which you can get on Amazon for a couple hundred bucks or less. Just know that there are no electrical outlets at SBP.

Instead of paying Disney for a iPod set-up with their speakers, I went out and bought a ZVOX 325 for about $300. It a little bigger than a VCR and the sound is amazing. It sounds like you have two speakers and a sub woofer. It also has a small remote for the volume. I also liked the fact that I could figure the set-up before hand and made sure all the songs sounded good. I didn't want to have myself or another family member have to quickly figure out a mixer board. I liked the plug n play aspect of ZVOX.


ZVOX 325 is also designed to be hooked up to you TV to give home theater sound from one speaker. Our wedding is this month and the reception is in the Whitehall room. I will post next month how it sounded.

Disney does not provide any staff for operating. My understanding is that you will need your iPod, iPod power cord and the cable to connect to the sound board.

The size of the ZVOX 325 is 17”w x 16”d x 4.8”h. It is not that heavy to carry. For transportation I was going to either ship to the hotel or a UPS store. Instead my FMIL is driving down to Orlando for the wedding so she is transporting the ZVOX.

In the end, I did not want to be at the wedding and have me or a family member trying to figure out the WDW iPod set-up with mixer board. I purchased the ZVOX about three months ago and tried out the set-up so I could trouble shoot any issue in a manner of seconds. It is pretty straightforward. With the Whitehall set-up, I will have a table set-up on the patio for my iPhone for the pre-reception and another table set-up inside the Whitehall for the reception/

Regarding using the iPOD/iPhone in general
The only issue I have found with iPod/iPhone set-up is that not all songs are down loaded at the same volume. I found the volume from songs copied from a CD to be louder than a down loaded iTunes song. It took a little time to go through all the songs and adjust the volume.

In the end, I spent a few dollars more than the WDW rental but I will have this speaker to be used with my home entertainment system.

Disney CAN provide someone to run the iPod if you want, but you'll pay a pretty penny for it. We paid about $800 for a setup and an engineer to run a CD player inside Epcot but only $250 to just have the equipment for an iPod and no sound engineer at the Attic. Just to give you an idea of the difference in price...

We re using an Ipod for our reception at SBP as my df really wants 2 songs to be played. We re just going to use our own ipod speakers which are battery powered, the volume on them is really good so they will work just as well as a professional system.

They come with a tiny remote so its really easy to operate & control, we can easily do this or just get a guest to press play. We figured it madness paying for someone to do this for us or for Disney to provide a system when we can do it ourself for much less

we got our own ipod speakers here in the uk and took them over with us, we had them plugged into the socket at the whitehall room and this was used for our first dance and background music, they were loud enough for us and saved us a fortune paying out for disneys speakers

I did try the sound check feature and it sometimes caused distortion and reduced audio quality. In the end, I just listened to all the songs and adjusted the volume of songs through iTunes.

We only brought the iPod for our wedding. Everything else was provided. I woulda been pretty mad to pay $250 for a setup that doesn't even include the proper cables!

Plus, how are you supposed to know what kind of connection Disney's equipment has? Could be a mini plug, could be a 1/4-inch jack. I'd be really surprised if they don't provide the cable for you...
