Hi

I have recently bought an iPod photo and the "camera connector". I have managed to upload the photo's from my digital camera on to the iPod (and I can preview/slideshow them) but how do I get them from my iPod onto the PC? LOL.

I can't find the answer to this in the guide....hopefully somebody can help me here!

:) Thanks in advance!

Hi Frances,

I think this will work (we're now using an iBook, which is much easier):

- Plug iPod in as normal so that you can see it in iTunes.

- Select the iPod in iTunes (bottom right-hand corner).

- That will bring up a menu box. Under one of the tabs there is an option 'enable for disk use'. OK that.

- It will then update the iPod. iTunes will say 'update complete' (or similar).

- You then have to manually disconnect it. Can't remember whether you then have to disconnect using the eject button in iTunes, or if you have to use 'safely remove hardware' from PC options.

- Once you have disconnected, you need to reconnect. Again it will update as normal. The iPod will say it's still updating, 'do not disconnect'.

- Go to 'My Computer' and you should be able to see the iPod as a storage media.

- Access it and the files will be there for you to copy to whatever folders you like.

- Once you've done that, you'll need to manually disconnect again.

- If you don't want to have to manually disconnect next time you plug in the iPod, you need to go back to iTunes and uncheck the 'disable disk use' box.

Effectively, you are changing the iPod to an external hard drive. If you want to view on your TV (and have the connectors to allow you to do so), you need to syncronise the iPod in iTunes with the relevant photo file. You'll then want to delete the images from the iPod as you'll have two of each.

Wow, thank you so much Deb! Those instructions worked a charm :)

Thanks again. I would have never figured that out myself!

Can it be used to save files on as well, such as word docs etc? If so, how do I get them on there? Thanks again for all your help! I'm having so much fun with this little machine!

Frances, whilst we've never done it, the answer is yes. In fact it is one of the big things Apple say about the ipod, and an easy way for people to swap from PC to Mac.

Basically, you need to have the ipod enabled for disk use - as described in Deb's post, and I would then guess that you can simply copy files etc. into the ipod in "My Computer" as you would normally do and then retrieve them by plugging the ipod into the other computer.

There is a tutorial here:
