ipod or Kindle Fire for movies?

We have one ipod that we load movies on for the kids to watch during flights. But we have 3 kids, so we plan to get another one. Would I be better off getting the Kindle Fire? Then, when they're not using it...I can! Any thoughts? Those ipods are so expensive and it seems like the Fire can do so much more. Am I missing something?
As long as it can play movies just fine (not just streaming), the advantage would be that they could play games (apps) and read books too. (Sounds like I'll never get my hands on it!) And it seems like the battery life is decent.
Is this a no brainer?

Honestly given the choice, I'd get a tablet of some sort. If you're planning on watching movies then a bigger screen is a gimme to me. I'd also like it for reading books! I have an HP Touchpad from the fire sale and I lug that thing everywhere with me.
