Ipod on plane?

I am a technological idiot and am going to buy an Ipod this morning. Assuming I can figure out how to use it, will I be able to use it on the plane?

Yes. iPods are nice to have on flights,

You'll just have to turn off your iPod during takeoff and approach/landing. The flight crew will announce when electronic devices must be turned and when they many be turned on.

By the way, the iTunes/iPod combination is brilliantly designed — and very easy to use.

I got an IPOD Nano about a month ago, love it! Used it on 2 cross country trips. It took me awhile to figure out how to operate the touch controls.

We love iPods! Nothing better than downloading a bunch of free podcasts (about WDW or a million other subjects) and having plenty to listen to on your flight.

They are so convenient! No more lugging around a zillion CDs! My kids have downloaded books (for $$) and french lessons (for free) and I've downloaded a couple of episodes of Law & Order ($1.99) and video podcasts (free again!) for longer flights. I take a digital voice recorder to some of my continuing ed courses and transfer the lectures into itunes and my ipod for later listening. SO many things you can do with one! I've even begun to convert our home movies shot on the DVD Handycam to use on the iPod. You'll be hooked!

Pardon me, my ignorance is showing ...what is a podcast?

I did figure out how to use it, by the way, and I am in love with it already! My daughter has a Mini Cooper that she left with me while she is out of the country, and it has a place to hook the Ipod in! I am so excited! (Doesn't take much!)

Podcasts are audio recordings (they now have video, too) that people from all walks of life make about particular subjects. Most often, they are recorded and published on a regular basis, and catalogued by episode on the itunes website (and many other websites.)

Once you have iTunes running, click on the MusicStore link. It will give you a wide variety of genres to choose from, including one for podcasts. Click on that link and browse by subject matter. All podcasts are free. If a particular one really appeals to you, subscribe to it and each time a new episode is published, itunes will automatically download it for you.

There are a TON of WDW podcasts. Even the DIS publishes one! You'll love them!

Has anyone flown after the liquid bomd scare last month? Becuase I heard on the news that liquids and creams were banned, except formula and perscriptions, but also that handheld electronics were banned as well. i.e. ipods, psp's etc.

I guess for fear of being used as detonators?

Electronics are/were only banned from some international flights. I have flown domestic since the liquid bomb scare and cell phones and iPods were fine.

Oh no! I don't think any of us have heard anything about any new items being banned since 9/11! Are there any threads here about this or is the government doing anything to let everyone know about these changes?

I enjoyed listening to my iPod on a domestic flight a few weeks ago — after the ban on liquids and gels.

The US did not ban electronics as part of the new security restrictions last month. The UK had a partial, temporary ban, but it's been lifted. The UK continues to have more restrictions on the size of carry-ons.

As before, there are restrictions on the use of electronics, such as turning off electronic equipment during takeoff and approach/landing, and no cell phone use in flight
