We are doing this and from what I understand they are sending the most current ipod Nano as replacement.

The defect discovered in the batteries appears to get worse over time.

So much so, in fact, that the company is offering a replacement, new iPod Nano - a serious technological upgrade which adds a touchscreen, an FM radio and a pedometer to the rather basic Nano that late Apple CEO Steve Jobs launched six years ago.

That's awesome!! This one has been sitting in a bag of old gadgets collecting dust..Yes!!

It's not confirmed that they are sending out a new model. The article does not state that Apple told them that. Apple has only said a replacement unit.

The website quoted is a uk (United Kingdom) website, so not sure how accurate info is.

There is an earlier disboards.com thread about this topic here:

The PP is correct - Apple has not committed to exchanging the 1st Gen iPod Nanos for the latest model. The US tech site cnet says that the exchange will be for another 1st Gen. Whether it's going to be new or refurbished is still up in the air.

Someone posted this link to an article about it. Looks like you will be receiving another 1st generation ipod nano. I'm fine with that! According to the article, these were released Sept 2005 to December 2006.

Thanks for the further info! It would be amazing to me if they had that many 1st generation still sitting around. I was going to bring my old one to game stop anyways for credit for my son to put towards games since i have an iphone and really have no need for this now (daughter has iphone and son has itouch), so anything that works would be great :-)!
